Recommended low end device.

Hi all,

Quick question; what device would people recommend as a good low end device to test apps on?  Me personal phone is an S6 and it dawns on me that what runs well on my device might not represent the average joe. I am aiming for maximum compatibility so I need to test on lower end devices.

Going down the apple route is slightly too expensive at this stage.

Cheers,

Craig

I would suggest getting an older tablet, that way you can test your UI is consistent on different sized devices as well as testing the performance.

A 1st gen Nexus 7 would be a good bet IMO - they are almost 4 years old now so you should be able to pick up a used one for a good price.

Whatever device you go for in the end, just make sure that you can use it with Corona. For example a 1st gen iPad can only have up to iOS 5.1 installed on it, and the minimum version required for Corona is iOS 6.0 (I believe). Most devices should be fine, but just thought I’d mention that.

I agree with Alan that the Nexus 7 is a great low end device. But the real question is how low do you want to go? My low end device is a Nook Color Tablet. You can get those for $20 on ebay and if it runs on that POS you are fairly sure it will run on almost anything. Plus the Barnes and Noble App Store rarely gets any love, but from my experience there are still people downloading apps for money there.

FYI: Corona supports the current iOS and two previous. This is mirrors Apple’s own methodology, rather than being any Corona policy.

Thanks guys. Out of interest what would be the recommendation for a low end iOS device. I have an iPad 3 (the first version) would that do?

Cheers

You can try try a “Galaxy Blaze 4g” they are really cheap now and if you install a custom ROM you can get android jellybean on it and test apps on there!

For Apple device i’d recommend an “iPhone 4” its not on the old old side but its not very new either!.
