Record iPhone Screen

Hello everyone!! Does anyone know of a way to record your actual iPhone or iPod screen?

If you want a screen short, press the top button and the round button at the same time.

If you want to record the moving images as a movie, its far easier to do it in the simulator.
But if you really want to record your actual phone, whats wrong with recording it with a camera?

I don’t have a decent camera that will capture the quality I would like.
I’ve done recordings in the simulator, but the main issue I have with that is it records the mouse cursor… [import]uid: 39302 topic_id: 26160 reply_id: 105945[/import]

You don’t know anyone with a camera you can borrow for an hour?

get any digital bridge camera or digital SLR. (5MP ones can be bought for 15 dollars on ebay, and are more than detailed enough)

Make sure the iPhone or iPad is placed against a black background, in subdued lighting, away from reflections.
Set the camera to what is known as ‘macro’ setting (usually looks like a flower)
And go for it.
You might crop the edges in iMovie or similar afterwards… [import]uid: 108660 topic_id: 26160 reply_id: 105946[/import]

I never actually thought of the possibility of borrowing a camera… thanks. I’ll work on that.

I use SimCap (in the Mac App Store) to record from the iOS simulator, and it allows you to choose whether to show the cursor or not in the video.
Hope this helps! [import]uid: 38000 topic_id: 26160 reply_id: 105967[/import]

Here is an interesting technique I came across the other day that allows you to record yourself using the app live and then replace the display of the app later with a recording (which is made automatically as you use the app).

This results in a much higher quality video of the app itself. This probably barely makes sense without seeing the video of it in action: http://www.bowerhaus.eu/blog/files/better_app_videos.html

The only thing is that it was done in a different framework but something similar is probably possible with Corona.

You could also use this to just create videos of the app in action without a mouse cursor or anything like that.

Does SimCap record audio? [import]uid: 10389 topic_id: 26160 reply_id: 105992[/import]

It can, if you get the Soundflower plugin. You can also record voiceovers straight from the simcap if thats what you want. [import]uid: 38000 topic_id: 26160 reply_id: 105996[/import]

Will simcap record mouse clicks in the recording when the cursor isn’t being recorded? [import]uid: 39302 topic_id: 26160 reply_id: 106006[/import]

ooh… $10… haha it seems like that’s exactly what I’m looking for though. [import]uid: 39302 topic_id: 26160 reply_id: 106008[/import]

I use ScreenFlow, it’ll also hide the cursor and will record audio. It’s $99 though. [import]uid: 54327 topic_id: 26160 reply_id: 106009[/import]

That looks nice. That’s probably a couple apps down the road though. [import]uid: 39302 topic_id: 26160 reply_id: 106010[/import]

SomCap has three options: record clicks, record mouse position, and record multitouch. You can choose any combo of these three to use in the recording. [import]uid: 38000 topic_id: 26160 reply_id: 106024[/import]

Here’s a link to a video I made with it, showing the clicks and the mouse position:

Screenflow is great, you can pick your favorite, no mouse or show mouse.

I guess that these options can’t be achieved with a decent moviecamera.

nice game BSG! In your video you recorded where the mouse was. If I wanted to could I only record the clicks? [import]uid: 39302 topic_id: 26160 reply_id: 106145[/import]

Thanks!
Yes, you can only record clicks. In that case I needed to show mouse movements, but you can choose not to show that. [import]uid: 38000 topic_id: 26160 reply_id: 106159[/import]
