Reducing file size

My game size is approaching 30mb and I just had a look to see what is causing the large file size. I see i have 432 images, totalling 17mb.

All my images are png and I have 2 copies of each (one for iphone 3G and one for iPhone 4)

Apart from any general advice on reducing file size, would there be any advantage in saving all the png files that do not have transparency as jpg?

I have used some live text in the game where possible to keep file size down but it still seems fairly large for what is a pretty simple game. It is all the panels and menu options that require all these graphics.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Do you use ImageOptim? I learned about that tool from the “essential mac apps” thread in the New Developer forum.

That said, images are just half of your filesize; is audio the other half? You can probably smoosh that down too. [import]uid: 12108 topic_id: 5369 reply_id: 17927[/import]

Thanks Jhocking

Nope - never heard of ImageOptim but I will google it now. I thought Corona had some super dooper compression engine for PNGS.

My game is currently quite minimal in terms of audio so audio is not causing a huge issue yet and I will be reluctant to add more if I can’t reduce the image size.

Many thanks

Hello.

I am new to Corona and to game creation in general.

My concern is this: Here is a screen shot of a VERY VERY tiny app (term used loosely):

How on Earth is this final app possibly 7.4MB?

Am I missing something?

OpenFeint libraries/graphics

and from what i remember, if you’re using the full version of corona, not the trial, then this doesn’t get included if you’re not using it

Would those libraries be embedded in the EXEC file?
I see here that there are a bunch of NIB files with in the app package, but they are all VERY tiny, except for the main EXEC.

(I am not really concerned about this “super small game”, but when I make something worth while, I’d like to avoid my game be 3 GB!
