[Resolved] Non-Subscribers build version

Hi,

Quick question, from a corona newbie/wannabe. Why do the non subscribers lag so far behind with regards to corona sdk/emulator build version, compared to the paid subscribers version, I would understand a few versions behind, but non-subscribers seem to be way behind?

Surely the alert when the app/game starts is enough for the trial version?

PS: I have every intention to buy the pro licence, when I have almost completed my first game, but when I do buy the licence, I will have to rewrite some parts to take advantage of the newer features like retina display for iPad etc.

Thanks
Warren

Hey Warren,

This is because every daily build gets its own number. (Naturally.)

So when you see 704 VS 764, for example, that’s only 60 daily builds.

Daily builds are a bonus to being a licensed Corona developer and allow access to our latest features and fixes immediately as they are implemented, although sometimes before they are perfected.

The reason we can’t simply release a new stable build for trial users every, say, 10 builds, is because there is no way in hell we’d survive doing a stable build every two weeks.

I hope this helps to clear that up for you.

Makes sense, I can see how every two weeks would be difficult, but say one every few months cant be that bad?
I mean last build for non-subscribers is nearly a year old :open_mouth: [import]uid: 114931 topic_id: 23611 reply_id: 94722[/import]

A year? Uhm, I’m not sure where you got that date from but it’s way off.

Our last stable build (available to trial users) was actually in December and it’s March now  [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 23611 reply_id: 94734[/import]

My bad, cant seem to find where I saw that date originally. Oh well.

Thanks for the replies, i’m happier now

PS: Any idea when a new build will come out for us noobs? [import]uid: 114931 topic_id: 23611 reply_id: 94747[/import]

No worries - I’m glad you are happier now

As to a new stable build I’m not sure at this stage but if you’re following Carlos on twitter (@cicaza) you will see him tweet when there is news.

@peach - I’m having some problems with storyboard. Just posted here: https://developer.anscamobile.com/forum/2012/05/06/storyboard-multiple-scene-entersceneexistscene-occuring-whats-wrong-code

Re this thead mind if I ask:
• how often do the trial stable builds get released?
• are the trial releases less frequent then the subscriber stable build releases? ( ie not daily builds but stable releases)
• if you have any feedback on my above mentioned thread too that would be great

Tks [import]uid: 140210 topic_id: 23611 reply_id: 105146[/import]

The stable builds are released at the same time for trial and licensed Corona devs - the main difference is that we have daily builds for licensed developers and some of those are “as good as” stable releases, IMHO. (By that I mean there are daily builds that do not introduce any new hiccups but also fix old issues and add features, much like a stable.)

I will check out your above thread shortly, have had a glance already and it looks fine though obviously you’re having issues - will try to replicate the issue in 704 today and if I can will see if it is fixed in a newer daily build so that I can let you know.

@Peach - thanks - to help me decide whether I need to go to a subscription now during build (would be nicer not to have to until publishing phase ideally) can i ask too:

a) date for the next Trial Version release/drop? (if you know/can find out)

b) direct phone number to sales? is there one (couldn’t see it) - could then ring to ask if I get the $199 subscription now is there an upgrade available to then take it to the full $349 when ready to publish

c) release notes info - how can I get a list of fixes per version? are release notes available? e.g. I could then check for all Storyboard fixes since my current trial release

A) That I cannot help with; I don’t believe we have a firm date yet, when we do we’ll try to let you know.

B) I can answer that question for you; yes you can. You can buy the $199 sub then email support using this form; http://developer.anscamobile.com/forms/support
They’ll then be able to upgrade your sub to Pro at a discounted price depending on how long you have had your Indie sub. If you still need a phone number let me know, I’ll have to chase someone up for that.

C) We actually do! Right here: http://developer.anscamobile.com/corona-daily-builds/summary
