I upgraded to Lion and I’m running sdk version 671. After about a week of tweaking the OS to get it working to my liking, I’m back to coding again on my game. Everything seems okay, except that when there is a runtime error shown in the terminal, now there is no dialog box to alert me. Is something in Corona effected by Lion that stops the alert box? Is there some preference setting for this? [import]uid: 23636 topic_id: 17696 reply_id: 317696[/import]
Hey Bruce,
Corona has never had alert boxes for runtime errors, although I believe the more recent versions of the Director class do use popups for certain errors.
Could this have been where they were originally coming from?

Peach,
Yes, I’ve seen the error popups from director. They are not what I’m referring to. Anyway, I’ve been getting some kind of popup message telling me there is a run time error ever since I first started programming Corona, almost a year ago (without director). They are important to me because the terminal window is usually behind other windows when I’m editing code and running the simulator. Sometimes the simulation keeps running even with the runtime error, so the alert is critical. Maybe I’m using the wrong term for the message, having come from Windows .NET programming. You never got a message when you called an unknown function name?

Peach,
I found out from Adam Buchweitz (crawlspacegames.com) that the popup messages I’m referring to were from Growl. I thought Growl was for popping up messages from outside software vendors alerting you to updates. So when I installed Lion, I deleted it cause they wanted to charge for their Lion update, and I had no idea what good it was doing for me.
So after the tip from Adam I just now installed the new Growl and the popups are back! If you go to Growl settings, you see Corona Simulator listed as one of the programs that use Growl.
How come nobody at Corona ever mentioned this?
BTW, the popups have the Corona logo in them, so no wonder I thought they were from you guys directly.

Hi Bruce,
I am glad you got it sorted.
I understand the confusion given the Corona logo appearing - that would look quite official
Is this something you feel Ansca should mention somewhere? That Growl supports the CoronaSDK? If so I would be happy to bring that up in our next meeting.

Peach,
Yes, I think Ansca should mention how Growl interacts with the CoronaSDK. Especially since it seems that Growl gets installed without the user being told about it, as happened with me. See http://growl.info/thirdpartyinstallations. As a brand new Mac user, I had no idea what Growl was when I kept getting update notifications for it. So I got rid of it as part of my Lion clean-up.
I find the Corona run time error notifications from Growl to be immensely helpful, and they deserve more publicity from Ansca.

I understand your point, Bruce - will bring it up for you

PS - I have never used Growl but may look into it, sounds useful. [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 17696 reply_id: 67750[/import]
