Screen Size Frustration

Hi all,

I am new to Corona and loving it so far but I am tearing my hair out trying to get Content Scaling to work.

I have read the docs on the subject at anscamobile.com and everything else I can find via Google and I just can’t get it to work.

My config.lua is set so that:

width = 320
height = 480
scale = “letterbox”
fps = 60

This is obvious working much better than zoomEven in terms of keeping everything at the periphery of my display area visible but I am having trouble with the black areas of the letterbox.

Documentation indicates that you can put graphics in that area to make things look seamless but I am not sure how to do that. I have followed the instructions aimed at ensuring that “Letterbox doesn’t mean black bars” but I can’t make it work. Even if I create 380x570 background images according to the ‘magic recipe’, I still see black bars. The expanded background image is just placed inside the letterbox. As a result, my game characters that fly in from offscreen are shown in the letterbox bands, not just when they enter the content area.

Is there anyone out there who can post a definitive config sample that they know works? Or am I misunderstanding something and it is not really possible to have a background image that extends outside the content area and fills the letterbox areas?

On a related note, I am also planning to implement dynamic image resolution once I get this worked out and would love for any sample provided to include a good set of imageSuffix/numeric factors which would allow for targeting of iphone, iphone 4, iPad and any relevant Android device resolutions.

Thanks in advance for any information that you might be able to provide!
