Search inside a forum

Is there anyway I can limit my search to a topic/post inside a particular forum? I can’t seem to find any options outside of sorting.

It seems counterproductive to not be able to run advanced searches within a forum. If particular keywords return too many results, people will be less inclined to filter through them to find an answer and will more likely repeat topics that have been answered before.

I use a modified Google search and it has worked like gangbusters thus far. I don’t really know why people keep trying to reinvent the wheel when Search, inside a forum or out, has been perfected.

Good point, Google has some pretty good options for searching, it could be easily integrated into this forum. I’m not sure how it could be used to search inside specific forums though (if you know how to do that, please share).

I just think this is worth pointing out because, well, case in point, I tried looking something up just now, got 3 full pages of results, completely unrelated to the keywords I used apparently, I couldn’t see snippets of the results so I had to click on every link (boring!), there was no way to filter the results, so I ended up saying, “screw it!” and posting a topic anyway.

I guess that would partially explain why these forums get so many repeat questions by newbs.

This is a great topic. Why don’t you tell me what you’re looking for and I’ll tell how I would go about finding it!

Cool! Well, to be fair, the keywords I used were way too generic, output link , I blame the utter lack of options for me giving up prematurely. I wanted to know something specific to the Glider IDE, there’s a Glider forum in here, so any results outside that forum are likely irrelevant. I was wondering if there’s anyway I could have errors and tracebacks in the output window parsed and turned into links that, when clicked, would send me to the appropriate position in the code.

Better keywords could have been, glider output link , the only result shown is the very topic I posted, or glider output parse , glider error parse , or glider error link.

I normally perform a search within Google that looks like this:

corona sdk glider output link site:forums.coronalabs.com

Your post was the first result for this as well. I’d say you are in virgin territory at this point. Have you tried directly contacting the developers?
