Selling your non iOS Apps as digital downloads...

Hi,

Given the 50meg limit of the Google Play store and that a few of my more popular apps for iOS are 1.2gig in size. I am considering just putting the Android and maybe the Kindle versions on my own website using a digital download based shopping cart.

Any issues with doing this as far as developer agreements with either store? (I looked and did not see anything).

I know the apparent advantage of being in the store but my website gets plenty of attention because of the name of it being so close to the app description/use so I think at least having it available both ways may be helpful. Amazon allows for a larger binary now but the package idea Google came up with for Android just isn’t working right for my particular apps. So at a minimum I would be doing this for Android versions of the apps.

On the Android devices I’ve used, you have to change a setting to “Run apps from unknown sources”. This is to run apps that are not downloaded from the official app store.

Do you have some way around this, or will this be needed for the apps downloaded from your website?

I wonder how the average user will feel about changing this setting. [import]uid: 67839 topic_id: 36001 reply_id: 143146[/import]

We’ve actually been thinking about this, just as a test to run alongside the regular stores. If you do go ahead with it please keep this post updated  [import]uid: 119420 topic_id: 36001 reply_id: 143159[/import]
