Sequence (+ livestream!)

A couple of years ago I watched @notch livestream his entry for Ludum Dare and it really inspired me. Pus I’m always curious about the process other people go through in creating a game. So I thought I’d flip that around and throw my own prototyping skills, primitive though they may be, under the spotlight! I’m starting right now - Here’s the livestream:

I’ve got this loose idea around collecting numbers in some sort of sequence, so we’ll start with that and see how it goes!

Good idea. I also recorded my programming process for this contest, but the video size is too big for my internet connection :frowning:

I learned that from Petr Mitichev (Great competitor of the ICPC,win several times the Facebook Hackercup, first place in Topcoder…) that shared their screencasts of their Topcoder participations. It was very enlightening about their creative/programming process.

Yeah, it’s a great way to do game jams. This being my first livestream, I also inadvertently have discovered how nerve-wracking it can be when you can see right on your dashboard that a bunch of people are watching you write code! It reminds me of piano recitals and public speaking. Such a great way to learn, though.

If you ever are able to get your recording onto YouTube or something, do share!

Really enjoying the Blitz so far. It’s refreshing to be so constrained that you can only work on the essentials.
After streaming the first two hours of coding, I took a break and thought a little more about the game. Also I reread the rules and was happy to discover that the sound and image asset creation could happen outside the four hours, so I experimented a bit with some sfx and threw together some loops in GarageBand for a soundtrack  Here goes part 2!

I don’t have a gameplay video up yet, but here’s the second half of the stream. A pretty good representation of the gameplay is at 2:04:00, where I have finished coding and am just playing the game. I’m happy to send the code to anyone who wants it, otherwise (depending on a clarification of the rules) I may sit on it so as to quickly turn around and publish myself.
