Severe issue! Unable to use Corona with OS X Mavericks

After updating to OS X Mavericks, I cannot use the Corona Simulator anymore, bringing development to a full stop!

Corona Simulator says I need to download “Java SE 6”. I click “Install”, and after half a minute I get the following error:

“Can’t install the software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server”.

The Oracle website says they don’t provide Java 6 anymore and refer to Apple, which evidently don’t have it either. Google searches for Corona + Java + Mavericks find no clues.

I am using the latest daily build (1241).

Hm I had no problems with OSX Mavericks and Corona SDK at all. Java 6 has been downloaded automatically after my first start. 

There might have been a server overload. I would try it again and if this does not work, search for Java 6 on Google. There are multiple third-party websites that can provide you with older java versions.

Software Update fails consistently. Downloaded it from Apple according to this post:
