Signing a new android app with "app signing with google play"

hi - i’m preparing a new app for the Google play store. I’ve enrolled in “App signing by google play”. Under the app signing tab, there’s a link to download the “app signing certificate”. I’m also told that “your app doesn’t have an upload certificate yet. the certificate you use to sign your first apk will be used as the upload certificate”.

I’m pretty confused (wish this process was as simple as Apple has made theirs).

Could someone please tell me what to do next? Do I still need to use keytool? What do I do with the "app signing certificate? Thanks!

I suggest you create your own certificates (following directions on this site) and sign your app yourself.

“App signing by google play” is not officially supported.

You use it at your own risk.

Do you mean “app signing by google play” is not supported by Corona?

Yes.  That is what I mean.

Unless the docs have changed since I last read them, it is not officially supported.

ok thanks.

Does opting into this allow Google to exercise complete control over your app without needing a key from you? Or do they already have complete control? (Please provide source for claim.)
