Simulator won't load up!

Hi there,

Today the simulator just… died.
Every time I open it, only debugger windows loads, while simulator won’t come up.
Debugger said something is using the temp json files.
I deleted them, reinstalled Corona twice, rebooted, the works… still won’t load up…

I’m running Corona on Windows 7.

Help? I’m now behind schedule… :frowning: [import]uid: 111476 topic_id: 25646 reply_id: 325646[/import]

Hey puma, I don’t personally work with windows but will pass this along and try to get you some help ASAP.

Hi Peach, thank you  [import]uid: 111476 topic_id: 25646 reply_id: 103691[/import]

Puma,

I’ve heard of this issue before, but we have not been able to reproduce it on our end yet. If the Corona Simulator is crashing on startup, then you will need to reboot your PC. This is because Windows has a file lock on one of Corona’s required files and rebooting the PC is the only way to release the file lock at that point.

You can prevent this crash from ever happening again by disabling the Welcome screen. You can do so as follows:

  1. Start up the Corona Simulator application.
  2. Click menu item “File\Preferences”.
  3. Check box “Don’t show the Welcome window”.
  4. Click the OK button.

Hi Joshua,

thank you for replying.
I’ve tried rebooting, uninstalling, etc… no effect.

Since Simulator won’t even load up - it freezes before it’s maximized - I can’t get to the menu item “File\Preferences” to try your method of disabling the Welcome screen.

Is there any other way to disable it, maybe in registry or a file?

puma,

It sounds like you have a different problem. Does the Corona Simulator show up on the bottom Windows taskbar? If so, it doesn’t sound like it is crashing. The issue that you are describing typically happens to people who once had dual monitor set ups, moved the simulator to the secondary monitor, removed the secondary monitor, but the next time the Corona Simulator it is placing itself outside your primary monitor.

Does the above sound like the issue that you are facing? If so, you can bring back the window to the primary monitor by right clicking the Corona Simulator on the Windows taskbar and selecting “Move” from the popup menu. [import]uid: 32256 topic_id: 25646 reply_id: 104065[/import]

Joshua,

the misplaced window was exactly the case and I managed to bring it back into view!

Thank you very much for your help, I can now continue with my work

That’s great! I’m glad I could help!

Just to let you know, we do have an active bug report on this issue. I have a dual monitor set up and it has happened to me once before as well. We’ll eventually address it. [import]uid: 32256 topic_id: 25646 reply_id: 104081[/import]
