Since Build 891 blendMode "add" not working anymore

Hi,

sorry Peach, already posted this in “Daily Builds”, but I think it’s better to move it here:

In 891 additional blend modes where added.

Problem is that now the blendMode “add” behaves differently (does not work as intended).
It seems like the “adding” is the default “normal” mode now, particles that were quite faint before now are very much visible.

This is a BIG problem because it destroys all my graphics, I’m using blendMode everywhere.
But I cannot use the older builds before 891, because of… lots of reasons, to many to list here.

Here’s an image from the app to demonstrate it (snowflakes are much stronger now):
http://apps.oetingerverlag.de/TransparencyIssues.jpg

And there are much worse examples in my apps now… :frowning:

And I cannot push upload to Apple / Google / Amazon right now as long as this problem is not solved.

Best,

I also noticed this!
there are more parameters now (“multiply” etc) but “add” doesn’t seem to work at all…

Yes, and it’s very bad - I have two apps I wanted to upload to Apple etc. before going on vacation, and now it’s impossible.

As I workaround I tried to use just less alpha, but it’s still not the same as the good old “add” blend mode - I want it back! Please! My art guy is going nuts.

Did you file a bug report on this? We would need a sample project showing the problem and which build you noticed the change.

It’s fine to post problems in the forums but filing bug reports is how things get fixed.

Thanks,

Hi,

I’m already on vacation hiking through the Swiss Mountains.
So why I’m posting here? Damn, it’s so hard to stop thinking about game projects…

Normally I would have posted a bug report with a test case, already did this a few times. But I didn’t have the time before going on vacation, you know how it is and how many things just pile up when you want to leave for a while…

But the case is clear, I guess. You started to improve the blend modes, your developers made a mistake and some regression happened, “add” doesn’t work anymore in the current builds, this was confirmed by other developers (three I know of).

So - what do you need more to have a look? I know it’s more comfortable to have a valid test case, but this shouldn’t be a requirement for a small fix.

Still hope this will be fixed when I’m back on Oct. 8th.

@canupa: if you get no answer from Coronalabs while I’m away and they don’t want to test it by themselves, maybe you can pitch in and provide the test case? Would benefit all of us, I guess a lot of developers just didn’t realize so far that some of their art fx is slightly off…

Best,
Andreas

Sorry but we have wasted lots of time trying to duplicate “easy bugs” without a project to demonstrate the problem. We have lots of bugs to look at, and we look at the ones with sample code that clearly demonstrate the problem. The only real exception is if you can demonstrate the problem with one of our sample code projects. [import]uid: 7559 topic_id: 31340 reply_id: 125485[/import]

well… the screenshot Andreas posted shows the problem in a way no sample project could do.

Take a png with trancparencies displayed with blendMode = “add” and you’ll end up with different results when built with corona SDK 915 and up.

I looked in the sample project folder but couldn’t find any sample that uses the “add”-blend mode.
But I’m willing to file a bug that links to this thread

Hi,

I don’t know if the bug report was already filed, so I compiled a small test case and uploaded it: Case 17820

Hope this is solved soon, we cannot publish our apps because of this.

Best,
Andreas

avlepel – Could you download an old build and publish your app? [import]uid: 136876 topic_id: 31340 reply_id: 126257[/import]

Well - no, otherwise we would have done it.

There are so many changes since the bug was introduced that we need to use the latest daily builds (iOS 6, iPhone5, NOOK HD, etc.). We use Corona to the extreme and use all the features and possibilities (building for most devices and app stores out there, including Kindle etc.).

So for us this problem must be solved, otherwise we would have to rework the art for three games we wanted to publish now. And the art would be much less pretty.

Best,
Andreas

Hi,

Walter answered this one in the “Daily Builds”-thread I posted this problem first:
http://developer.coronalabs.com/forum/2012/09/19/build-891-problems-blendmode-add-added#comment-126765

So it’s not a bug, it’s a feature!

Andreas
