25 APR 2015 Update: I have since rebuilt my machine entirely and the slowness still exists. So, this alleviates the question (for me) of whether I had an infection or malware.
All,
I’ve been experiencing a strange slowness when accessing the site lately and I wanted to see if I’m alone in this.
The strange thing I’ve noticed is, when I’m logged in, I see slowness on these links and sub-links:
However, this is ONLY true on a Windows system.
UPDATE (more details)
Another part of the signature is that when I do see slowness, I also notice the browser is ‘spinning’ and waiting for something to download. Hitting escape (stop download) fixes the issue and immediately shows the page.
Experiments & Findings so far:
-
Windows 7 - Chrome 42.0.2311.90 m
- Fast when NOT logged in (to Corona account).
- Slow when logged in.
-
Windows 7 - FireFox 37.0.1
- Fast when NOT logged in (to Corona account).
- Slow when logged in.
-
OS X 10.10.2 - Chrome 42.0.2311.90
- Fast in either case (logged in or not)
-
OS X 10.10.2 - Safari 8.0.4
- Fast in either case (logged in or not)
Other Things I’ve Tried :
- Disabled virus scanner temporarily. - No effect.
- Scanned system with two different virus scanners (from safe mode). - No viruses found.
- Scanned system with two different malware scanners (from safe mode). - No malware found.
- Log in with alternate account (I have an old one under a different name I no longer use.) - No difference.
- Test Connection Speed - I’m typically 35/35 (mbit/s), but my current tests show 20/30. So, while there is a problem here, its not slow enough to cause the issue I’m seeing.
If you are a Windows 7 user using Chrome please try this experiment:
- Log out.
- Visit the links above. Click around on different API reference sub-topics.
- Keep an eye out for responsiveness. Is it fast for slow?
- Log in and repeat 1 and 2.
Did you see any difference? In either case, please make a note of your test and findings below.
Thanks,
Ed
