Sizing Images

Hi All,

I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice on what size I should be creating my full screen images.

The prototype images have been created at 640 x 960 pixels and look fine on an HTC Desire as well as an iPhone 4s.

Do I need to create images that are higher res say 1280 x 1920 for higher resolution devices?

My config.lua is set at 320 x 480.

Thanks in advance.

Anil

Generally speaking if you use a content area of 320x480, you will have base images that will be sized for 320x480.  Then you typically provide images twice that size, targeting 640x960 with a suffix of @2x and then a set 4x the size at 1280 x 1920 with a suffix of @4x.

Corona will pick up the right size based on the device’s real screen size.

Now that said, because devices are different shapes your backgrounds should be based on a 360x570, 720x1140, etc. knowing that depending on the device, some of the background will be off screen.

A very basic and dumb question.  So, if I just want to build for iPhone 5 (I do not own an iPhone 6), what should my base image be and what should my config.lua file look like?  How would this affect people viewing on 4/s and 6/plus?

Perhaps a better question is, What is the best image base and should we care for scalability or ‘universal’ build if we only want to publish for iphone?

Thanks,

I would recommend what I suggested above.  The 4/4s family is a 320x480 shape, it will just take the center out of the image and be pixel perfect with the @2x image.  The 5/5s will pretty much use the full width of the 570px (568 of the 570px) content points, and is pixel perfect with the @2x image.  The iPhone 6, non Retina iPads  will use the @2x image but slightly stretch it larger.  The @4x image wills scale down some for the 6 Plus, and stretch up some for the Retina iPads.
