Slots From The Crypt: Now Featured in "Whats Hot" in App Store Casino Games

After releasing the extended soundtrack this weekend, and getting a bit of a morale boost we just noticed today that Slots From The Crypt is now featured in the “Whats Hot” for all casino games.

In celebration we’ve lowered the price to .99¢ and tonight we are submitting a patch to decrease the app size and fix the audio mixing bugs using the new audio engine.

For any game music fans or the curious, the soundtrack is available for free at:

I’m sorry to be the one to tell you this, but the Games/Subcategory features are automatically chosen, everyone gets them and mean very little since they don’t show up on the device (which is where most people browse the store) and I’m afraid they contribute very little to sales if at all.

Sorry. [import]uid: 10835 topic_id: 5133 reply_id: 16988[/import]

Thanks Mr. Bummer-man! Seriously though, no problem and no offense taken. I still have no idea how the magic of the app store works most (all) of the time. As you know though, it’s challenging to get word out about your app so every little thing is good to utilize to your advantage which may hopefully drive discovery to your app, even though this section is not seen on the device.

Also, who knows what potential review sites could become intrigued based on that minutely higher level of visibility, you never know. I tend to think you shouldn’t dismiss an opportunity based on a defeatist outlook. Someone can see it there, which leads to another, which leads to a potential random tweet somewhere in the universe… and so on.

That goes for all of us small guys. You can’t account for every variable when dealing with the interests or whims of the users of such a massive marketplace. Take a look at how much buzz Bubble Ball was able to build on over the last few days. That spark started somewhere.

I’m sure you wouldn’t fault me for making do with that… Gotta market with what you got and stay positive you know? [import]uid: 10401 topic_id: 5133 reply_id: 16992[/import]

Hey I’m all for staying positive, believe me. Other more sensible devs would have given up on my game long ago, but I still have one major update within me. Hopefully that one will turn the tides.

Having said that, you seemed to think it was a real feature, but it’s really quite meaningless. I was featured in Games/Family in the US store and saw about 0 sales increase. Hopefully your game will get featured for real in the future and you get to reap the rewards of that. In the mean time keep doing old school promoting. Lowering the price and optimizing your game are steps in the right direction.

This thread will give you more insight on being featured on the store.

Again, sorry for being the bearer of bad news, but I thought you should know. [import]uid: 10835 topic_id: 5133 reply_id: 17004[/import]

Thanks for the links, I will def. check them out. I did a tiny bit of looking earlier today after seeing it in the section, but not much real research.

Again, it’s all good man you didn’t offend me at all and I really mean that. I’m all about getting the right info, and you are helping me get that info by not pulling punches with your input.

I checked out your game, Shelly The Shell Master (I hope it’s yours) and it looks really colorful and fun! Here’s hoping that the eye of Apple falls upon either of us and gets placed in the really hot feature sections. [import]uid: 10401 topic_id: 5133 reply_id: 17006[/import]
