Smartball: Gravity Games released

My first mobile game has been released in the IOS app store:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/smartball-gravity-games/id640096010?mt=8

It has been developed for about a year and has some free levels for you to try. If you get any bugs/crashes or have any suggestion for changes, please let me know (just reply to this tread).

The optional login is for premium and will allow you to continue a game on another tablet/phone. Currently only IOS, but later also on Android based devices.

Smartball Gravity Games has been updated to version 1.1:

* Bug fixes

* Animated Ballman

* Promotion system

* Fixed Notification system

* Reduced in-game prerequisites for unlocking level 2-4 (less goldbars are now needed).

SmartballGG has been upgraded to version 1.2:

*Bug fixes; last ball freezing bug

*IOS7 compatible

*More animations

*In-game ads that gives in-game coins if you click it

Congrats!   Pretty cool!   I downloaded it last night.    Why is it so big, though?   155 MB?   What format are your music files?

There are 30 levels with different background pictures (I´m a amateur photographer) and I needed to include Ipad3,2 and Iphone3,4 and 5 versions for all levels. The music is standard wav.

I am thinking about putting the images on a server and only keep a iphone5/ipad2 version (e.g. 768x1136) in the app. That way the app works without network, but could download larger or smaller images if it has a network connection. It would easily reduce the app size to 1/4th its current size.

If you find any bugs (well, the in-app store seems to be broken in 1.2, but premium should be out soon), please let me know. Version 1.3 will be out in a week or two with easier gameplay (easy, medium, expert; current is expert) and some bugs fixed. The freemium-model will also be expanded to include higscore and easier to buy levels without paying (you get more coins from ads).

Any suggestions is also nice. I am thinking about a “ball combat” level in which two or more players join to compete and help each other out. Alot of kids like to play with friends (at least mine) and you cant compete with Clash of clans without it. :wink:

You might consider .m4a (MPEG-4 audio only) and/or OGG Vorbis for your music.   I converted my .wav sounds and music and reduced the size of my app by a good 40%.

Actually most songs are .m4a is see now, it was only the sound effects that were .wav. Still, I can gain some MB by converting them, thanks!

Now, if I could convert all those png files to jpg (e.g. all objects with some transparency), it would shave off a great deal of the app. Any idea with regards to transparent gfx?

Smartball Gravity Games Version 1.3 has been released.

Actually it was released a week ago, but I was busy walking around on GDC Next so haven´t really had the time to announce it here…

For next version (1.4) the plan is to integrate:

  • Player vs player puzzle battle:  Current plan is to make it almost synchronous, but there will be a 300ms lag so it will only be used to show how the other player is doing in solving the puzzle.

  • Facebook integration: Some players don´t like this, but the firm conclusion from GDC is that it works.

I also hope to get some of the Gfx offline.

The game is now Free-to-play, so all levels can be opened through normal gameplay. Test it out here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/smartball-gravity-games/id640096010?mt=8
