"Social Poetry" - coming any day now to iOS!

Hi Everybody,

UPDATE: The app was approved and is live in the App Store! Also, the Android version is live on Google Play and an Amazon version is coming soon, pending review. Check it out, everybody!

Social Poetry takes the traditional “found poetry” style of composition, perhaps better known as “magnetic poetry” because of the ubiquitous kits, and puts a new social media spin on it, by dynamically generating word magnets from posts by the people and pages that you like on Facebook. That means you get a completely different set of words every time you fire up the app! The app encourages users to share their creations on Facebook, on Twitter, as well as a “Community Gallery” that is viewable inside the app for all app users worldwide (this is done by uploading to the app’s Facebook page, and then the app pulls those photos to display in the gallery).

An earlier draft of the app pulled words from your news feed (meaning words were always from your actual friends), and tagged them when you posted your poem to Facebook, but the new FB Graph 2.0 rules now make it impossible to get the “read_stream” permission necessary to do this unless you are basically creating a Facebook app for a platform that doesn’t have an official one (which means you pretty much don’t get it). I appealed with no luck when they denied my request, but if the app gets a large enough audience, I’ll try again. So for now, we’ll make do with pulling words from your “likes.” Sigh.

The app is free and ad-supported, with an in-app purchase to remove ads and allow customization of font & color, as well as the ability to create new word magnets by typing in custom text. But for you, my fellow Corona developers, you will be able to unlock all that in-app goodness for FREE by following the steps found here: http://socialpoetry.jasonschroeder.com/launchparty

Anyway, here’s a short video tutorial I’m including in the app and some screenshots to whet your appetite while I wait for Apple’s approval. You can also keep tabs on the app by following @socialpoetryappon Twitter or liking the app at http://www.facebook.com/socialpoetryapp. And I’ve created a simple marketing page for the app at http://www.socialpoetryapp.com.  Thanks for reading!

This is genius.

Thanks, @Panc! I edited my original post (see 3rd paragraph) to chronicle my awful experience getting the app approved by Facebook, which I know you’ll appreciate. :slight_smile:

You know me too well, Jason. Can I hold my breath for an Android app?  :rolleyes:

I’ll be porting to Android as soon as the iOS version is live. Most of the code should translate seamlessly, but I expect that there will be a few tidbits that’ll need massaging, plus I’ve never provisioned a FB app for Android, so that’ll be a few hours of “fun.” :slight_smile:

::deep breath in…::

:wink:

Looks very cool!

ANOTHER UPDATE: The app is now also available on Amazon’s Appstore! Go get it on the app store of your choice!
