Solar2D future

Hi guys, I have nearly completed a game and would like to start others in Solar2D but is anyone else worried about it’s future? It seems to be supported entirely by 1 person.

If he decides it is no longer for him then Solar2D is dead along with all our projects isn’t it? Is this a worry for anyone else, considering the time it takes to develop any game?

In recent years there has been constant concern about the future of Solar2D / Corona SDK but we are still here.

I believe we will continue to be here for quite some time to come.

Thanks for replying, just looking for some reassurance I guess. As you get the end of a project and realise how many hours you sank into it, you then start to worry about wasting that effort.

Are you still starting new projects in Solar2D are well or just completing/maintaining older ones?

There has been a lot of discussion on this topic before.
My opinion is that Solar2D is still doing very well. It may be difficult to have new features (this depends on the community).
There have been many impressive games released since Solar2D became open source
and they are still developing their new game with Solar2D.

You can check out the impressive game being developed with Solar2D

and many more.

In addition, Solar2D still has significant developments late year, supporting Vulkan on PC, completing html5 build, and there is also a version of folk box2d v3.

That’s great to know, thanks for the reply, I am not really worried about new features, as long as we can deploy to the app stores

I confess I had the same concerns, but I’m not worried anymore.

I agree that Vlad is responsible of many things (like approving modifications on the main repository),
And this can give some anxiety, but since the project is now open source you can already count on some community members.
Somebody forked the original source code to give us an alternative, while somebody else actively worked on Solar2D to improve it.

Yeah, this community is small so it doesn’t give the sense of stability as a big engine… But this is still a solid reality and I think we shouldn’t worry until some games are still running.
Personally, I have published my 4th Solar2D game and I’ll be publishing another one this year!

So, in conclusion,
I think the realistic vision is: there will be slow and few evolutions in the next 10 years, but we can count on this framework as is. It will survive us!

I support my existing games and make new ones.

This year I will create 3 new casual games for iOS and Android.

As long as store requirements are met and Admob & Unity Ads are working I have no reason to stop using Solar2D.
