Some newbie questions

Hey all,

In early 2011 i was introduced to corona sdk… and since then i didn’t have a chance to work with the framework until now.  (money, time, …)

  • Back then i guess i read something about: corona doesn’t support 3rd party services like: iads, admob. That changed? Or maybe never was a truth…

  • What’s the average of the size of the file ready to publish in appstore? A simple game, like a endless runner.

  • Let’s use the same example: Endless Runner. I searched for some tutorials on the internet using corona to develop and i only got 2012 versions of the tutorials. Have things changed much since then? Worth it lose some time looking at those tutorials even if they are out of date?

  • My future game, gonna have 1 main character. The animations of the character have to be made in a spritesheet? Or i could use something like flash animations?. What about Partciles Animations? Could be used with corona? (Sorry if it’s a non-sense question)

Yes, Corona supports selected 3rd party services via ‘plugins’ (paid subscription needed).

Generally Corona is getting better an better, but tutorial from 2012 should generaly work fine. However in 2013 Corona introduced Graphics 2.0 so there will be some minor changes (like different color ranges or no reference points but anchor points)

I’d like to know the answer to this, too.

It seems there are some articles online from 2012 that talk of the average iOS app around 50-60MB and getting bigger each year.  I just downloaded a sample of Sherlock Holmes story app that was 800+MB (just a sample, not the whole book).

hey @piotrz55, thanks for the answer. Is there some doc which contains those modifications?
like the example you did: reference point to -> anchor points. So then i can follow the tutorials.

50-60 mb is acceptable for me. But 800mb?? that’s… wow!

Corona as a framework must increase some difference in file size since it is not a native language of the device. Maybe it’s non-sense what i said, but i think it’s that way. But also, the way that the assets is handled in the development… Must have some best way to do it, which bring us to my last question of my first post. I hope someone can help me up here.

The lightest Corona binary should be around 5-7 MB

Thanks for the link!

About my last question in first post:
I recently, got an email that says Corona now supports Particle.
