Someone published Ghosts vs Monsters

I was just cruising the App store when I came across this:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ghosts-vs-monsters/id496820262?mt=8

Someone named Youri Graveyard took the Ghosts vs Monsters sample code and added more levels then published the game to the App store. Not sure how the Beebe’s feel about having their game and art being stolen and sold for profit. Just a heads up. [import]uid: 31262 topic_id: 21840 reply_id: 321840[/import]

What a shame enough said… [import]uid: 30314 topic_id: 21840 reply_id: 86756[/import]

Not just that one but this one too lol

I mean, it’s cool to use the code but at least change it up some :). [import]uid: 7475 topic_id: 21840 reply_id: 86758[/import]

Wow. Just wow.

Their other game is this

Which looks awfully similar to this

Looks like all of his apps are clones, most notably “Jetpack Ride” LOL. He most likely ripped off all sample projects he found from every SDK out there. Looks like all of his games have been released within the last month. Another scumbag clogging up the App store. [import]uid: 31262 topic_id: 21840 reply_id: 86770[/import]

Terrible. Just Terrible! [import]uid: 10389 topic_id: 21840 reply_id: 86775[/import]

As much as I think you shouldn’t just package up and submit a template to the app store, I have to admit that (assuming his description is truthful) 71 levels is a ton of work… especially since if he used the template, he had to write 69 additional lua files as the ghost vs zombies template has no simple xml definition for building the levels… lol. @ blasterv

I Agree on “71 levels is a ton of work” but lets face it hes using the work of others and just splashing more levels. The hardest part of an app is the start from scratch once is up and running creating levels would be one of the easiest part (IMHO) but honestly I highly doubt there will be success from anyone who relies on using the hard work others have gifted this community to learn.

PS:At least change the color of the images LOL [import]uid: 30314 topic_id: 21840 reply_id: 86785[/import]

@LeivaGames

I completely agree with you, just pointing out he put a lot of work into copying instead of the usual copy & submit crap we usually see in these cases. It’s the lesser of two very big evils :stuck_out_tongue: [import]uid: 36054 topic_id: 21840 reply_id: 86787[/import]

It’s on the Android Market also posted by 2 different developers. One has been on since July. Kind of seems like a slap in the face lol. [import]uid: 114389 topic_id: 21840 reply_id: 86789[/import]

The MIT licence allows you to do this, however the worst thing i see is that the “Made with Corona” badge was retained

Judging from the screenshots, the quality of the additions (look at the level text etc) is probably subpar. Adding to this, the sample itself is only the groundwork needed to create a game like that. There are several additions it would need in order to feel like a finished product. All of which I doubt the user in question added.

This can shed a negative light on our SDK.

All of this is just my $0.2cents and not ansca mobiles take on this. [import]uid: 84637 topic_id: 21840 reply_id: 86840[/import]

I would be interested in seeing what the levels look like but in no way want to give this dev any money even if it’s only $0.70. It would be very easy to copy and paste a level and change the coordinates of the objects.

I read the MIT license Danny and it does seem to cover this, however I think it should be updated to exclude all artwork. [import]uid: 31262 topic_id: 21840 reply_id: 86871[/import]

We are looking into it.

Thanks

I agree with aaaron I think all those free MIT license code should be updated to exclude usage of artwork for distribution after all you already getting a huge amount of help with the code itself dont need to go extra mile and use the art work too. Just my 0.02 cents in

I agree with everyone else. If you want to use the launching part of it that’s fine. But change the graphics change the concept. Hell make it bones shooting at dogs. Just don’t keep everything the same it’s a joke. I’ve been a corona member for almost a year now and I love it and I know alot of people do. But people like that ruin it for everyone.
