Space Monkeys! | 15 Year Old Developer!

What’s up Corona Crew?

I’m a 15 year old developer(just turned 15 a couple days ago actually) who is basically a *n00b* to app development, but I’ve made an amazing app called Space Monkeys which was released a little while ago in April! It’s an action packed shoot 'em up game in which you control a monkey that treks throughout the deep depths and uncharted territory of space as you fend off oncoming aliens. You can shoot lasers and dodge the aliens, which come in many colors, shapes, and sizes, as your score racks up and up and up! It’s an infinite running game, kinda like Jetpack Joyride but is monkey-fied, has different controls, and you can shoot lasers too. This is my first game ever published, but it would mean a lot to me if you guys could download it and give it a try!

I’ve been making this game for a couple of months now and have been trying to reach my goal of getting it noticed in the App Store and word of mouth! I’ve got a lot of people playing it in my school and they have loved the game as it’s connected to Apple’s Game Center and has a leaderboard(achievements coming soon!) for players. So far, I’ve got a little over 300 registered Game Center players and over 20 5-star reviews, which has really made me happy knowing that people have responded positively to the game! (I’ve heard it’s rage-inducing   and addicting kinda like Flappy Birds from some people! I don’t know if that’s a good thing :P  )

As for how I was introduced to app-making and Corona, a lot of things I have done in the past has led up to Space Monkeys. Starting from when I was in third grade, I’ve been really interested in legos and computers, so I started making Stop-Motion YouTube videos of lego characters with my sister’s pink camera and my desk! I was really into this kinda stuff, and I think my lego movie making led me up to getting started in other things too. Even though they sometimes didn’t make sense and were sometimes badly made, I started to learn to become adept in computers, was able to become better at movie-making, but most importantly, was learning to have fun in a kinda different way!

After that lego movie stage, I started a comic website and was introduced to coding by creating a website a couple years ago. I made weekly gag-a-day style comics that were either drawn on a sheet of paper or sketched out on a computer. They were really(and I mean REALLY) cheesy, but a few of them made some people chuckle a bit. This was when I found out I liked to code, create computer cartoons, digital things, and most of all, liked to entertain people!

Later, I was really interested in making a game, an app for the App Store, but didn’t know how to do it. After probably weeks of searching for things, I saw Corona, and as it was free (8th graders have tight budgets, you know!) and looked like it was easy to learn, I started to code on it! One thing leads to another and *BAM* I publish an app, Space Monkeys, on the App Store on April 30!

Thanks for reading that - I know it was a relatively long read - but again, it would mean a BUNCH to me if you could try it out and maybe rate it as well and maybe even talk about it to your friends and family. Space Monkeys is for Apple products only(sorry Androids!), so for iPods and iPhones and iPads.
