Spriter - 2D Animation Tool

I’ve seen a bunch of people ask for a “+1 for a CoronaSDK plugin” for the Spriter animation tool - http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/539087245/spriter and I did see that someone was working on one. However I know there are a bunch of different ways to handle sprites in CoronaSDK.

So what ways are you implementing animation in CoronaSDK?
Which way is really the “best of the best”?
What type of formatting is needed from a file output to make it easy to add in CoronaSDK?

If anything we could make this into some type of community effort to make a sweet collection of tools to use to export animations from Spriter to our CoronaSDK games. [import]uid: 57050 topic_id: 25398 reply_id: 325398[/import]

I’m one of the Corona +1’s
I did back the project, seems like a great tool.

Spriter writes out an XML based open source file format for sprite animations that’s designed to be easy to implement in game engines. Karnak games is the one working on the official corona plugin. It’s expected that like the other vendors the plugins be paid but you get your choice for free with the backing. Judging by how fast people have implemented it so far I think it’s going to be a very reasonable task. [import]uid: 110373 topic_id: 25398 reply_id: 102610[/import]

What a coincidence, I JUST saw Spriter today on Kickstarter for the first time. I backed it! [import]uid: 11636 topic_id: 25398 reply_id: 102613[/import]

I did back it too but I’m really anxious to try it out. I sent a message to Karnak that went unanswered. Just need patience I guess. [import]uid: 31262 topic_id: 25398 reply_id: 102709[/import]

I would also love to know if any progress has been made on a Corona plugin. Go Karnak! You can do it!

This looks like a awesome tool. Funded anyhow [import]uid: 26289 topic_id: 25398 reply_id: 103463[/import]

How this tool works?

I asked him on Twitter and this was the reply:

I guess that means he fiddled around with it so much that it got broken and had no rollback procedures in place? [import]uid: 31262 topic_id: 25398 reply_id: 103522[/import]

Do we know what type of format he was going to write his plugin for? I know there are a few sprite implementations for corona that people use… [import]uid: 57050 topic_id: 25398 reply_id: 103543[/import]

Hmmm. We might need someone who is a little more ‘into’ this project. I will ask around.

Also does anyone know if Spriter can just export simple sprite sheets as .png files? If so then it wouldn’t be too much trouble to use without a plugin in the meantime.

I think it only exports to XML. I’m going off the description since I could never get the beta to install properly. [import]uid: 31262 topic_id: 25398 reply_id: 103635[/import]

I didn’t install the beta ince I primarily run Mac… but I’m sure it shouldn’t be too hard to transform the XML (or whatever output it is) to what we need for Corona… however there are a few “formats” that Corona libs can use … anyone have a comprehensive list of how to “implement sprites” with Corona?
