Support for BlackBerry Playbook

RIM has recently released an Android Player for this device so Android apps compiled using Corona should run. However, developer experience shows that they do not due to Corona’s use of Android NDK which is not supported in the Android Player. Can this be fixed? It would be great to add the playbook to the list of supported devices.

RIM has also released a native development kit for their playbook

So another option would be for Corona apps to compile to native playbook apps.

Please let me know what you think!

I think it’s complicated enough trying to keep Corona working for all the different variations of Android that currently exist let alone trying to make it work on a dying device which doesn’t work with Android apps properly. [import]uid: 10389 topic_id: 24062 reply_id: 97206[/import]

Well you may be right, but it would be nice to hear an official reply on this. In the past Corona have been keen to add new platforms so I’m a bit surprised they didn’t do something when BlackBerry announced the new Android compatibility.

There have been several threads on this so definitely some dev interest. I’m surprised there is still no official reply. I simple Yes or No would be enough.

I think if the Playbook had a credible future, it would be worthwhile adding it to the Amazon and Nook variants but it will almost certainly go the way of the Touchpad. Personally, I’d rather Ansca concentrated on the mainstream and Kindle Fire. [import]uid: 95579 topic_id: 24062 reply_id: 98532[/import]

My 99cents?

I’d rather Ansca spend time on:

a) fixing bugs
b) better monitizing options
c) Adding much needed features so that we make better apps for the platforms we have

before they spend one drop of development cycle on low yield platforms like the playbook or the HP touchpad that are dying (or dead) devices with nothing remotely useful as a app store/market place

Hmm, surprised there is no official reply. It seems Corona staff rarely comment on the Feature Request forum. A bit disappointing.

Of all the things I want Ansca to work on, a dying device and a doomed to fail company are the last things, and even if they were the last things I still wouldnt want it!!!

Corona is basically Lua + Box2D — RIM has ported both Lua and Box2D to QNX. Angry Birds Space was launched today on the Playbook — it’s a native c++ game because RIM ported Box2D to QNX.

You are not going to make an Android game to run on the Playbook using Playbook’s Android player. You are going to make a native game to run on the Playbook. [import]uid: 144863 topic_id: 24062 reply_id: 102978[/import]
