Swing City

Hiyo,

After over a month of fighting with Apple’s review team Swing City is finally released on all major mobile stores.

Swing City is one of those ‘rope in swing’ games except that instead of following the typical endless runner model I wanted to add level progression like your typical platformer. I made the app while in waiting on some other folks to finish stuff up on some other projects which explains the uhh,… programmer art…

Even so, the game is pretty fun. It starts out easy but then gets pretty hard past level 30. The reason for this is my co-workers beta-tested the game and I enjoyed watching them to get super frustrated as they played it.

Some screenies:

Well, guess this wasn’t much of a spiel but wuteva. Below are the links. It’s not available for free in the app store so I have included a few promo codes. I’ll try to remove them as they get used. Just let me know if you do use one(or if you use one and it doesn’t work!).

@Hiyo

Congrats! for getting it done and out on the market. I like your thought of adding ‘level progression’ instead of endless scrolling. I will check it out!

You mention you had to fight with apple for a month… do you mind sharing what issues you ran into with them … maybe hearing those could help some other indies avoid such a long delay in getting their apps out. Thanks!

Again, congrats!

Sure. The main issue was my ‘Free app of the day’ button. When I first submitted it if you clicked it and no ad was received nothing happened. They felt that this was a bug. Alrighty, added a notice when no ad was received.

While my app was waiting for review this next time they made those policy changes about advertising other apps within your own app. When they rejected my app the second time they didn’t really give me a clear explanation that this was the problem. It took a few days of emails back and forth for them to come out and say that me offering a free app needed to be removed. Very, very lame but I did it and resubmitted.

The third time it didn’t get rejected. Instead after 8 days of ‘waiting for review’ it went into ‘in review status’ after 4 days of being ‘in review’(which usually takes like 2-12 hours) I emailed them about it and received some canned response about review times. End result is it took around 16 days for my app to get approved from the time of my third submission.

What is kind of funny is that while this was happening I submitted another app with the same exact button(Anagram Bounce) and it was approved with no issues.
