Take a 'dump' on the wild side...

It all started as a joke… Flappy Bird, flappy this flappy that … so much flappiness going on in the world that it gets a little too much to bear… (no offense to any of my fellow flappy app developers!). The world needs something a little rougher around the edges… This one is a take on the wild side.

Please welcome Crappy the Turd - downloads and reviews much appreciated.

Hah hah. Thanks. Wait till you hear it

Today I received my first rejection from Apple… Guess the ‘toilet humor’ did not resonate well with them. Oh well…

it is an app about crap. I’m sure android will allow. lol

I too had a flappy clone rejected (iOS). Reason - metadata and title contain the word flappy.

Fair enough - I accept that.

Then…true to form (and this is how sh1t Apple are) they accept a raft of clones over the weekend with the word flappy in the title.

How difficult can it be to maintain a db with keywords/title words that are to be rejected? That way everyone is treated equally.

CrApple review system strikes again!

You must get this masterpiece of a turd into the iTunes store!

Well, I filed an appeal but don’t have high hopes. The rejection states that Apple found content or features designed mainly to upset or disgust the users… They couldn’t be more wrong about the intent of this app. Never heard of toilet humor? Argh.

Also the rejection states my app contains profanity in the app name and uses a graphical depiction of feces as its icon… At last check I saw many other apps in the store with same words used in the name and many ‘poo’ apps using cartoonish poo depictions so I agree with MAS1… Consistency it appears is not one of the Apple Review Team strengths… Oh well. This was a learning experience for me anyways and I just write it off as such and move on.

Crappy will live on in the world of Android for the time being.

Apparently both Apple and Google are now rejecting “Flappy” as either a keyword, part of a title, or some combination of both. This is just what I heard, and I don’t know the specifics, but if the rumors are true, both marketplaces were so inundated by Flappy clones, they might have just cut it all off abruptly.

@Brent

Apple are rejecting flappy worded apps - depending on whether the coin lands heads or tails. Yet another mother load of flappy worded apps appeared in the last 24 hours on iOS.

I genuinely don’t mind the rejection - but it should be across the board and not arbitrary as is the case with the CrApple review system. Oh well, I’d better let go of this anger and move on!

Ok. It is now decided. Crappy the Turd will forever be an Android exclusive. Apple is not going to budge on this one.

So to recover from that rejection I released another clone… Flippy Burger. Lets see how this one will fare. Its already live on Google Play Store at : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appynerds.flippyburger

Your kind review and feedback will be most appreciated and as always will be returned in kind. Thanks!!!

No surprise here from the inconsistent CrApple review team:

Hi there. Thank you so much for posting this update. I was not aware. I will go back and respond once again to the reviewer and point to this irregularity. When I pointed out earlier that other apps with the similar wording and visuals exist on the App Store they simply brushed me off saying policies and approval standards change over time and now this is not acceptable but then they go approve another game with almost same elements. Yikes.

I was going to do the same thing with my flappy clone - that is take my “case” up with the review team.

The first version was rejected for having flappy in the title.

The second version was accepted when the word flappy was removed from the title.

The third version was accepted (I’d added the word flappy to the meta data keywords) but the reviewer removed the word flappy from the mata data keywords.

So - to complain to CrApple or not? They have rejected my flappy meta data keyword yet CONTINUE to accept the word flappy in the title of new apps even today. It’s totally arbitrary and folks are kicking off on various forums and twitter and the like.

Upshot? Pointless me trying to get CrApple to accept the word flappy in either the title or as a  keyword now as the store is riddled with clones and the dollar chase on flappy apps is done.

I’m done with flappy now - time to move on to the Shuriken Block clone - nearly done! Ha! ha!

Best of luck with your CrApple review team dealings ksan!

Thanks. I wasn’t in it for the money anyways but more so to poke fun at the whole flappy gold rush. Too bad Apple didn’t see eye to eye with my sense of humor. Oh well… All the best.

  • and you ksan. Good luck!

Well well well!!! Just got a note from Apple Review telling me that my app, Crappy the Turd is now In Review!

This morning, after seeing your update and those links, I simply wrote back to them and asked that they reconsider their previous position and approve my app or take down this app to show that they do have one policy which they are willing to apply fairly and consistently…

Will update thread once I get yet another rejection or approval… Fingers crossed, Crappy may live to see yet another day!!!

Wow!!! I just received the following :

The status for your app, Crappy the Turd (817118888), is now Ready for Sale.

It is a happy day in Crappy Land!

@MAS1, thank yo very much for alerting me to that other app. Most appreciated.

May your Turd sales flap to craptastic heights!

Thanks!!! Its pretty constipated on the Android store but who knows maybe IOS store will prove to be more ‘runny’… Oh well… I should probably tone down the toilet humor before the mods get annoyed with me! Keep well.
