it will be interesting, count me in [import]uid: 16142 topic_id: 18509 reply_id: 71263[/import]

Yeah, unless something else grabs my time, count me in.

I think Iā€™ll be one of those people who teams up with an artist ā€“ after working with Dwayne from DIEHard Studio on a couple projects I know just how nice it is to focus mainly on coding and leave the pencil twiddling to someone who actually has talent for that.

+10

This sounds like fun! [import]uid: 66117 topic_id: 18509 reply_id: 73074[/import]

+1 and hoping to be in!

Nice way to test our progress with Corona SDK [import]uid: 67641 topic_id: 18509 reply_id: 73076[/import]

I love it and would love to participate, though being art challenged is a problem.

This will be fun!

iā€™ll definitely try to participate, it will be fun [import]uid: 16142 topic_id: 18509 reply_id: 73080[/import]

Iā€™m excited for this, but I canā€™t help but feel the rules are hazy and that individuals are at a disadvantage if competing against teams. Like robmiracle, my art skills are limited. But more importantly, I must take time to create/find art (which takes me longer than a real artist and is of lesser quality), whereas teams do not have to waste developer time doing that. It would make more sense if there were two divisions, one for individuals and one for teams.

On the rules, my main issue is what constitutes ā€œcommonā€ third-party libraries. Last year (I did not participate so I am going based off the rules I read for last year), the Director class was permitted along with any data-storage mechanism, but nothing else. Is it anything under ā€œShared Codeā€, do my own versions of these libraries count? etc. etc. Thereā€™s way too much gray area here. [import]uid: 36054 topic_id: 18509 reply_id: 73081[/import]

I would hope 3rd party stuff would include anything in the Shared Code library too, just like I would hope I can use my own library of code Iā€™m building up.

As for individual vs. teams, individuals are clearly at a disadvantage because as an individual, I have 48 hours. I add a teammate, I now have 96 man hours, add a 3rdā€¦ 144 hours. But the rules do limit one primary programmer, so putting a bunch of programmers together wonā€™t work.

Iā€™m thinking that if youā€™re like me and donā€™t have good access to an artist, it might be beneficial to have a ā€œGooglerā€ as a teammate. They can be tasked with searching for artwork and sounds while you code.

One more thing I noticedā€¦ I do understand that because Ansca is located in PST zone, it may seem like it makes sense to have the contest run for Midnight Saturday PST to Midnight Monday PST, but doing that puts those in the EST zone at a huge disadvantage, as many of us have to go to work Monday morning and having the contest end at 3am EST leaves little time for sleep.

Switching it to Midnight Saturday EST to Midnight Monday EST makes better sense, since the hours would be reasonable for both the PST and EST time zones (9pm to 9pm for you lucky people in the PST zone). [import]uid: 36054 topic_id: 18509 reply_id: 73085[/import]

That also puts our non USA friends at a disadvantage too.

Now it could go 12a-12a Local would work. [import]uid: 19626 topic_id: 18509 reply_id: 73088[/import]

Hey guys,

First up be glad I chose PST rather than Sydney time which would suit me much better

Seriously though, no one is likely to work 48 hours. It covers a whole weekend so thereā€™s some flexibility. The most I think anyone is likely to work in that time is probably closer to 36 hours which is still pushing it depending on how much sleep youā€™re used to getting.

I understand it ending at 3am may be inconvenient but if you arrange your time you can simply submit midnight and go to sleep - getting up earlier instead. (Assuming you plan on sleeping ;))

For the third party code, I should have been clearer - last year it wasnā€™t really an issue.

How do you feel about any third party classes/libs that are publicly available? (Meaning Rob you can use your library supposing you make it publicly available - how does that sound? OK? Not OK?)

Lastly - Teams - no judging category is based just on artwork. Having nice art helps but itā€™s the idea and execution that matters most. I think this is a nice way to involve artists in the community as well as coders.

The idea of only one coder per team evens that out.

Let me know your thoughts; happy to adjust as needed, I just want everyone to have fun with it

Can I participate ? lol :stuck_out_tongue: [import]uid: 84637 topic_id: 18509 reply_id: 73926[/import]

You know technically you probably could, but I imagine if you spent all weekend working on an app you wouldnā€™t get enough work done  [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 18509 reply_id: 74111[/import]
