Test Build for Kindle Fire: Icon is Grey

I’ve tested a handfull of apps in the Kindle Fire, and haven’t had any major issues with the icon.

Before, I’d have at least a blurry icon show up in the dock on the Kindle, but now it’s just a grey, blank Icon.

I have the icons: Icon-hdpi.png, Icon-ldpi.png, Icon.png, and Icon-mdpi.png, as well as Icon_512.png…

These are all icons I’ve had in the builds before without issue, and now when I publish a test build, and install on the device, I don’t see one…

Anyone else having this issue? I’m also using the latest daily build, but originally tested it with build 732

I haven’t heard of anything like this but do not deal with the Kindle myself currently.

I’ll ask Josh (Android guru) and see if he has any info I can pass on.

Check to make sure your icon.png file doesn’t have an alpha channel.
I think that’s what caused that issue for me a while back… If I recall correctly

Thanks Peach!

@interAlia:

I checked in photoshop under channels, and don’t see an alpha channel, although I could be searching in the wrong place…

Never had this issue before so it must be the icon itself… just don’t know what the issue is… [import]uid: 63661 topic_id: 23037 reply_id: 92216[/import]

I just realized that I don’t think it matters if the Icon is grey on the dock since Amazon uses the 114X114 one for the device, and the 512X512 one for the site itself, and both of those you upload to their site when submitting your app.

Hello!

“That randomly happens on the Kindle Fire when installing an APK by hand. It won’t happen when installing from the Amazon app store. So it is nothing to worry about.”

That’s the info I got from our Android expert for you.

Hope this helps  [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 23037 reply_id: 92325[/import]

Is there going to be a location where all this stuff is easily accessible? I’ve been trying to install things on Kindle / Nook and have been looking for a nice central location for all “tips and tricks” with small tactical “here’s how to do X” type tutorials.

I’d be interested in helping put something together, since I’m sure I’m not the first one wondering about a bunch of these things. [import]uid: 57050 topic_id: 23037 reply_id: 97740[/import]

FYI - I’m almost always on the IRC channel, if you want to chat about this. [import]uid: 57050 topic_id: 23037 reply_id: 97742[/import]

Hey, TozSoftware, I’m not on the IRC channel at all – but if you’d put together “tips and tricks” and “here’s how to do X” type tutorials for Kindle/Nook, that would be awesome. I’m preparing to port my iOS game to Kindle/Nook, and it seems like it requires lots of searching to figure out what to do.

I think this kind of thing would be very useful but unfortunately I can’t do anything with NOOK or Kindle.

NOOK for some reason my dev account hasn’t been approved (D’oh!) and Kindle I don’t actually own. I should import one, probably.

I do think you have a good point though, a thread on this would be very useful. [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 23037 reply_id: 97866[/import]
