The Why
Coronium Cloud was created in the search for a Client (Corona SDK) and Server (Coronium) to have parity in development of Lua based applications that required cloud features. Both Corona SDK and Coronium use Lua as the coding base, making it much easier to “bounce” between client and cloud scripting. Developer participation and simplicity has been the guiding force of the project over the last two years.
Coronium Cloud is best for those who want to “own” their system, but don’t want to get into the server operation details. If you are currently in the DevOps space, Coronium will be a more difficult transition because 95% of the work has been abstracted away.
The What
Coronium Cloud is a “full-stack” server implementation. It’s built on a number of well-known and robust components. Out of the box it provides MongoDB, MySQL, push integration, user management, simple analytics, custom cloud code scripted with Lua, data objects, and more all fronted by the industry leading Nginx engine.
Coronium Cloud is free and self-hosted using an Amazon EC2 image, or most providers who offer Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. You will be charged at the hosting provider level (unless you’re on a free or trial plan). Hosting provider payments do not directly support the development of Coronium and more importantly are 100% the developers responsibility.
The Who
The Coronium Cloud project was started in 2014 by Chris Byerley, along with amazing feedback, testing, patience, donations, and support from the Corona SDK community. Without them, there would be no Coronium Cloud. Today, Perk/Corona Labs sponsor the development of Coronium Cloud for the Corona community.
