Time or score, to determine level end?

Hi,

I’m working on a match 3 puzzle game, and I’m trying to decide which is better for determining level end, score or time limit. Anyone got any ideas?

Time-limit**  Pros:** Adds time pressure element to game-play. Allows for varied high-scores even on same level.

Time-limit**  Cons:** Game length is always the same.

Score Pros: Game Length is varied.

Score Cons: High-score for each level is the same. Ultimately this makes keeping score pointless imo.

Perhaps you can provide both options as gameplay modes.

I think I may have answered my question. I believe the answer is neither

I think the best way is to tie level end to the number of matches. That way it is up to the user how long it takes them reach that number of matches and the score can vary based on match “combos”.
