To all beginners ( including myself )

I’m a beginner developer and started with it while I was home ( still am ) with my newborn baby, I did it because I was told I couldn’t do it and you had to be super smart and a total computer geek.

Well while being a at home mom I usually don’t have much time to work on my apps or games between my sons napping sessions and I do I lot of reading and studying when ever I get a chance or when he doesn’t require my full attention.

So when ever I have time to actually sit and write some code, I want that time to be as efficient as possible. When ever I need some info on how to this and that I always check the forum for any posts that can be helpful but the problem is when you have so limited time finding something in the forum can be very tedious.

So to all beginners ( including myself) please do a proper search before asking questions in the forum. All noobs keep asking the same questions over and over again, it’s like people don’t know how to read anymore. I did a search a few days ago and to get to the post that was relevant I had to skim thru 4 pages before I found it.

I know there are many many beginners here but please use the search bar before asking questions and read the docs, you’d be amazed how useful they really are to a beginner.

And to all the ones that think I’m just bitching, wait until you have children and you’ll understand how valuable those “alone” moments really are.

Thanks to the amazing and helpful people.

Hey Cindy,

I totally agree. I feel like venting a little bit. Lots of beginners asking the same questions, and their topics are TERRIBLE.

I contribute where I can, but when someone posts topics like “I have a problem graphics problem” or something completely non-descriptive I ignore the post. Too many repeats too. The forum search function is dreadful.

I think the Ansca team is aware of these issues with regards to stuff like documentation. Hopefully, they can give us better tools to build a better community and knowledge base so Corona experts feel more inclined to help beginners.

I think the Stack Overflow/Exchange system would be perfect for a lot of the Q&A in the forums. [import]uid: 27183 topic_id: 22412 reply_id: 89348[/import]

@ cindy.h1986

Well Said Lol, I try to help in the forums as much as possible but when I come across post that have been answered or can be found on documentations I either skip them or post a link. I try be as helpful as possible because when I started over a year ago I was also a noob asking questions but a lot of the times the questions ask now a days are either answered or found somewhere. Anyhow I congratulate you for being a mother and spending your little free time studying and learning, if you ever need some help you can email me at LeivaGames@gmail.com ill try be as helpful if im not too busy.

Best of Luck,

Certainly, topics with titles that are non-descriptive are a big problem and people asking the same question a number of times when it has already been answered, yes, that’s no good.

Unfortunately part of the blame is on us - our search does need improving and we know that, it would make it easier even with the duplicate topics.

Interesting to hear you got into this because people told you that you couldn’t do it - I’ve always been a bit of a nerd but that kind of thing spurred me on with apps, too  [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 22412 reply_id: 89396[/import]

About the issue with Forum search (which I can totally relate), try google with “corona” as part of the keyword. It does a wonder for me. In fact, even without “corona” as part of the keyword, lots of corona forum links will most likely come up anyhow.

Cheers, and good luck with all your effort. I’ve been there when my boys were sweet little things, and I know how precious little time you have for yourself.

I share this annoyance. In the beginning, I asked a few beginner questions. Now I see the same questions over and over again, so I end up using google with boolean or something like that, which works better than the search function here

Yes, the search is probably one of the least favorite features, so hard to find things and sifting through topics. I have a 5 month old son, so I KNOW what you are talking about, he naps for 45 minutes, and I POWER CODE, then he’s awake and wants to play or make noises and stuff. So I totally appreciate your perspective.

I work a normal job during day, then wife gets home then I have family time, then around 8pm to about 12:30am or 1am I code, then wake up at 6:30 and do it over and over again. Then on the days my wife works on a weekend (she’s a nurse, babies don’t take weekends and holidays off from getting sick) I get about 3 hours out of a 14 hour day of QUIET.

You never realize how efficient you can be once you have a kid. It makes you ULTRA PRODUCTIVE when you have down time from them, what once took me 4 hours now takes me 30 minutes. It’s like efficiency on steroids

Anyway, topic at hand is the search needs work, a lot of it. Simple searches don’t yield results correctly (or sometimes it says no results found, yet I go on google and can find the same thing on this site…strange indeed).

Thankfully, I don’t ask a lot of questions as my problems are physics based, and people have gotten an earful from me on Box2d collision problems enough as it is :).

I have issues, too.
You can’t search the forum for transition.to
So I go to Google and search for:
ansca transition.to
And I get my search answered  [import]uid: 10389 topic_id: 22412 reply_id: 89766[/import]

Oh please Jason, you don’t Google, you PeachMail!

I kid, of course - but yes, I Google rather than using our search too. We know it needs fixing up. [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 22412 reply_id: 89790[/import]
