I use PS for most images Gimp, Pencil are good free apps

Gimp - free photoshop alternative
Inkscape - free illustrator alternative
(If you have the money to invest, I would definitely recommend getting PS and Illustrtor over the two above. If you don’t, they are still a pretty good alternative)
blender 3d - very powerfull 3d modeling, animation, rendering free software. [import]uid: 33608 topic_id: 20548 reply_id: 80648[/import]
Hi,
I love Xara products, the speed of creation for buttons, icons etc. is really quick.
Quicker than Illustrator/Photoshop (as it is very WYSIWYG with most changes taking place in real time without opening another window).
You can import and export as PSD files too.
Very intuitive (and a little quirky) and not as expensive as PS/Illustrator.
Free trial download available. Purchase price is around $89 or so.

Cheers
Nick.
PS I have no assocation with Xara-I just like their products.
I just spotted this 2011 review from PC World:-
“Xara Photo & Graphic Designer: The $89 Photoshop-Killer?” “Xara Photo & Graphic Designer (…) is an all-in-one tool that can edit photos, 2D and 3D graphics, animation, text, and page layouts–for online or print media–seamlessly, without switching programs (…) If you are considering splashing out about $1,000 on Adobe Creative Suite Standard (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign bundled) or pretty much any other photo editor, illustrator, or page layout program, try out Xara’s Photo & Graphic Designer first. The staggeringly affordable Photo & Graphic Designer is worth your time and the price of a few antacids while you learn. Plus, with $910 change in your pocket, you may never look back.”

I’d also recommend Paint.NET which I personally find easier to use than GIMP.
For sound editing, I use Audacity. [import]uid: 118390 topic_id: 20548 reply_id: 80797[/import]
The person who does a lot of my art uses Adobe Illustrator. I use Photoshop, but I’m also a photographer, so its a must have tool for me regardless.

I think good alternative to PS … a “worth the money” product is Paint Shop Pro (Windows). I use it since a very long time and from time to time I buy upgrades.
My “free” choice is GIMP - on Linux box…
not to forget about PovRay for some special things I do need - maybe other people not. [import]uid: 70114 topic_id: 20548 reply_id: 89298[/import]
Coral painter and gimp for graphics. Do other users on here know any brushes that look as good as coral. Mypaint doesn’t seem to have as great brushes as that program. [import]uid: 128294 topic_id: 20548 reply_id: 89331[/import]
Have a look at DrawPlus (www.serif.com), it’s not bad for the price. You can’t beat Adobe Illustrator though, but be prepared for the price and a fairly steep learning curve. Sometimes it’s better to just pay a professional to do your artwork.
Photoshop is handy for fixing up artwork too, but I’ve found that Paint.Net is perfectly good for my needs (and free). [import]uid: 73935 topic_id: 20548 reply_id: 89577[/import]

I am not graphic designer, I only tweak the graphics from my designer occasionally, but i use Pixelmator for my needs. If I had to do all the graphics myself, I might use something else, but for my small edits, Pixelmator works great! [import]uid: 38000 topic_id: 20548 reply_id: 109440[/import]
Adobe Fireworks. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. It’s the less-costly cousin of Photoshop and Illustrator combined, with many of the features that make its big expensive cousins so great. Plus a few unique features which, in my opinion, make Fireworks IDEAL for “non-painted” style app artwork.
For “painted” work, I’m a recent convert to Procreate, quite possibly the best and fastest iPad painting app on the market (and it costs only 5 dollars!). Team it up with a nice stylus from SRU, or a conductive “brush” like the Nomad Brush, and you can paint some beautiful background art. Plus, Procreate can easily export layers to Photoshop for further editing, or PNGs with full alpha transparency.

DevRocket plugin for photoshop. I stumbled upon it on google and it’s worth the $10 it cost. [import]uid: 13560 topic_id: 20548 reply_id: 109965[/import]
