Top 5 most wanted features

Danny, I appreciate you taking the initiative to do this, as I (and quite a few others) were getting tired of re-posting the same issues and having them ignored over and over.

What I don’t like is that the top 5 features being asked for here won’t be given either a definite ETA or certain inclusion, just a possible “bump” if the development team feels like it. That’s not the way you treat paying customers. There is an expectation that you will not just listen to us, but ACT on what we feel are the priorities, instead of the development team and/or leadership making them up as they feel like it. (In fairness, it is ok to have your own priorities - I get that, but you can’t ignore what your paying customers want in the process of doing that).

What really should happen after the votes are tallied is that Ansca makes a public commitment to get the top 5 features done and provides us with tentative dates for their completion. That’s how you build a relationship AND trust with your paying customers. And it’s ok to miss those dates too, you just need to be more transparent about where you are. It just so happens that all of your customers are developers and engineers, so we’ll understand if things don’t go “perfectly”. [import]uid: 36054 topic_id: 18265 reply_id: 70040[/import]

Gent let’s face it - ads sux. You have to put 30 games per year or do another Angry Birds to got good ads income. Good and free Game gives you much better profit by In App Purchase. Try it many times as Android developer in my full time job. [import]uid: 12704 topic_id: 18265 reply_id: 70041[/import]

@blasterv

That isn’t the intention at all, customer satisfaction is the main priority for us, I can assure you.

My statement above is just made to not get anyones hopes up, believe me I am going to take this very seriously and I will bring this up (upon the poll closing) at our next meeting. Things are progressing well, kindle fire support and the upcoming secret feature are huge strides forward. I am sure after this we can look back to getting the most wanted features in.

I will be your voice to the development team, your wants/wishes/requests are taken very seriously by us, I assure you. [import]uid: 84637 topic_id: 18265 reply_id: 70044[/import]

@Danny - I 100% agree with blasterv. I don’t like how we are being treated.

Also whats up with the secret feature. The daily build says its done but you guys keep talking about it like it’s some top secret thing that only the president can know. Again not cool.

@gtatarkin - we can’t try it cause there’s no android support for in app purchase. [import]uid: 1884 topic_id: 18265 reply_id: 70046[/import]

Sorry, I put 5 times iAds, just want to show how badly I would like iAd support with Corona SDK. [import]uid: 83418 topic_id: 18265 reply_id: 70049[/import]

Yeah, and I’m from Florida so voting multiple times is in my blood. [import]uid: 40137 topic_id: 18265 reply_id: 70050[/import]

  1. Native code extension
  2. Follow through on existing commitments
  3. Improvements to image saving API
  4. Camera objects overlay (video, camera)
  5. Access to bitmap data [import]uid: 13632 topic_id: 18265 reply_id: 70052[/import]

@ojnab I did not think Ansca would be up for allowing us to infuse our own native code into builds. Allowing that (if done properly) would let Ansca focus on whatever features it likes, since the community and third-party vendors would be able to build and provide extensions/products that covered features people wanted. For instance, third-party vendors could focus on providing features that were platform specific (iOS/Android/Amazon only) while Ansca focused on core items such as the Physics engine. [import]uid: 36054 topic_id: 18265 reply_id: 70058[/import]

@Danny,

Take this to the development team:

It’s great that Ansca is bringing us support for the Kindle Fire. If it didn’t, we all know we would be asking for it. Diversity in platforms is something that Corona has advertised, and something it obviously aims to make its own. That said: Every market is a competition. Apple’s app store, the Android market, even Amazon, our apps are competing with thousands of other apps, often for a few precious minutes of exposure on launch, for their, and our, survival. While it is great to be able to enter so many contests, if I don’t have a competitive product, I cannot compete. Period.

Corona as a tool for making games for iOS and Android is falling behind because we (the developers) do not have access to the latest features that are continually redefining gaming every day.

I’m currently developing a game. This game must use in app purchases. It must use push notification. To not use these features would make my game stand out, and not in a good way. Android in-app purchases has been at the top of the “Top Priority” list since I first learned about, joined, and subscribed to, Corona. Game Center (which has turn-based push notification) was apparently discussed on the forum months before by Ansca’s top staff. Now, knowing that, six months later without either implemented, do I

a) Keep developing with Corona and hope you all figure out how to give us what you have already stated you are working on in the remaining three months I have left on my development window

or

b) Take what I have learned here and use those same three months to adapt this to native Apple or Android code?

Of course I want to stick with Corona. Of course I will (for now). I realize that it would take much longer for me to learn and then develop in a new system (our two). But come the end of my development cycle, will I feel it was all a waste of time? Will I wish I was that much further along in learning a system that will provide me with what I need? @vopmms yes you can with inMobil and adMob for example. From my experience every 1000 downloads from Android Market gives you about 4USD per week so you need about 250 000 downloads to have 1000USD per week. So for two person team you will need at least 2 games with 250 000 downloads each (with typical game life cycle) to think about leave you current job and start new life as mobile game developer.

So minimum year plan should looks like this:

500 000 downloads of free game with ads = 130 000 paid game (0.99 USD = 50 000 downloads of free game with In App Purchase [import]uid: 12704 topic_id: 18265 reply_id: 70072[/import]

@gtatarkin not to throw us further off topic, but from my experience combining IAP with ads has worked best for me. A free download that is ad-supported, and then having an IAP unlock the full version and disable ads maximizes revenue from those willing AND not willing to pay for the full version. [import]uid: 36054 topic_id: 18265 reply_id: 70075[/import]

@gtatarkin - are you saying we can do in-app purchases with inmobil on Android? [import]uid: 1884 topic_id: 18265 reply_id: 70078[/import]

I’m not saying “with” but look at Corona API:
http://developer.anscamobile.com/reference/index/ads
http://developer.anscamobile.com/content/creditsvirtual-currency

Didn’t try these functions with CoronaSDK because I use Java and Android SDK right now. [import]uid: 12704 topic_id: 18265 reply_id: 70079[/import]

My 5 would be:

  1. Physics and Non-Physics collision detection that ignores transparent regions of an image.
  2. Better Sprites. I pretty much avoid them. They are way too complex to setup.
  3. Better Revenue options (iAds, whatever.)
  4. Better Text. Retina text and embossed text was a start, but Retina text needs to work on iPads, the bugs that have been posted need to be fixed. And some form of “Rich text” needs supported, be it HTML, Markdown, including perhaps native bitmap font support (not as high of a priority)
  5. Push Notifications which hopefully would come with native Game Center.

Re: Secret features…

Yea, we wanna know, but on the other hand Ansca is trying to make this a fun community too and since they are close to a main release milestone, its good to have features added that they can use to promote the game and expand their user base. So let them have secret features. We will get them soon enough.
On the other hand… part of being a subscriber and having access to daily builds is to provide testing on new features in advance of its release. Wouldn’t it be nice when the next main release, Retina text works? We’ve done the testing and filed the bugs. [import]uid: 19626 topic_id: 18265 reply_id: 70092[/import]

i’ll agree with everyone and say that Ansca staff really needs to rework their principles and actually do what we(current and future customers) need most
Even GameSalad have a GameCenter support and we dont [import]uid: 16142 topic_id: 18265 reply_id: 70097[/import]

  1. Time-based physics! Please :slight_smile:
  2. Improved GameNetwork API (latest OpenFeint, native GameCenter)
  3. Access OF/GC account username for single-sign on
  4. Android IAP
  5. Updated Box2D

Thanks for all the hard work! [import]uid: 87138 topic_id: 18265 reply_id: 70136[/import]

  1. Android IAP
  2. Give Carlos a raise
  3. Other Ad Options (like a adWhirl service would be nice)
  4. OpenFeint for Android
  5. Allow Paid account Corona Software to be installed on 3 computers… I have a mac and pc at work… but would like to be able to have 1 pc activated at my home office as well. [import]uid: 67604 topic_id: 18265 reply_id: 70153[/import]

Yes,

I also have 3 computers. Please allow 3 computers for Paid account. [import]uid: 83418 topic_id: 18265 reply_id: 70156[/import]

While I’d love nothing more than see Carlos (and the rest of the Ansca staff) get raises, they will do so when they sell more Corona SDK memberships. That will happen when they add the things we need.d

So if you’re putting “Give Carlos a raise” as one of your top 5 needs, you’re really not helping this thread figure out what the top 5 things are. [import]uid: 19626 topic_id: 18265 reply_id: 70157[/import]
