Torque2D appears to be finished. Look for another group of "refugees" to join Corona (I hope!)

Some sad news, in a way: it appears that Torque2D and the entire Torque SDK is out of business, or rather “in flux” while waiting, hoping, praying that some other company buys them up and continues building the product line. I guess the s**t hit the fan just yesterday, and the entire Torque community (and ex-employees) are in shock, uproar, disarray, etc.

Having used Torque2D previous to Corona, I am somewhat sad this occured. Torque2D was an awesome development platform in many ways, with huge potential and many capabilities. It was hampered by other failures, however, i.e. it lacked the ability to quickly get an app developed and deployed in the App Store. Getting a project completed with Torque was considerably complex, which is one reason I now prefer Corona. Still, Torque was a great product and it’s sad to see it go.

BUT, there is a silver lining to every cloud right? Corona is now officially “my platform” and I can put 100% of my effort into it! Also, I expect there will be a slew of upcoming converts/refugees coming from Torque to Corona, similar to what happened after the GameSalad “fallout”.

Ansca, keep that promotional coupon active for another month and you’ll probably get a bunch of new customers.

And everybody here, let’s welcome the (likely) group of converts that will be coming here looking for a new game development SDK. We’ll have a chance to build one of the best indie game/app development communities around.
