Trying to Build for IOS app get Error "Please reinstall the iOS SDK"

The Error Message below appears when I try to do a build for iOS. Xcode version is 4.3 Preview, iOS version on iPad is 5.0. One other thing, the Corona Simulator crashes.

“The iOS SDK located at /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer is missing the following component(s):
Please (re)install the the iOS SDK.”

Thanks in Advance for any help. [import]uid: 11150 topic_id: 20374 reply_id: 320374[/import]

What version of Xcode 4.3 preview and what version of Corona? Have you tried the daily builds?

Thanks. I haven’t had a chance to install beta 3. I’ll look at it next week.

Hey guys,

I am having the same problem right NOW!

After have installed the latest xcode version 4.3 (released today) not beta version am UNABLE TO BUILD FOR iOS. When I click build it says that is missing:

The iOS SDK located at /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer is missing the following component(s):
Please (re)install the the iOS SDK.
What can I do please?!

PS: Sould I download xcode 4.2.1 again and remove the latest one? o.O
PS2: There is nobody using the latest Xcode Version?? Is it just me and getting this error?

PS3: Looks like the Xcode installation now is totally different. It after installed sits under Application folder and not the well known Develper folder…I think it is the problem with corona so.

Thanks in advance.

@Eric…any news? Have I to unistall Xcode 4.3 and return to 4.2.1 Lion?

I`m downloading 1.7Gb again for Xcode 4.2…bah :frowning: [import]uid: 89165 topic_id: 20374 reply_id: 87406[/import]

@RSCdev,
just so you know, I found out after doing a lot digging that the Beta Release of 4.3 and probably any future releases from Apple is something Corona Developers shouldn’t use. The Beta release doesn’t install all the files like the typical final production release. The beta version installs one executable file that you run and apparently any other files normally installed and the directories and so forth are not being installed but environment variables are being changed. Thats why Corona can’t find what its looking for, thats why you get the “Missing Components” message.

I ended up uninstalling all versions of Xcode, then reinstalled 4.2.1. This fixed my problem of “Missing Components” message. I haven’t tried the production release of Xcode 4.3. Your post encourages me to not install 4.3. It took too long to get everything working again. I would think that Ansca staff would be proactive in this area in particular do to the fact that Corona development requires Xcode. I found when I was searching for information on this problem, it was very difficult to find out exactly what to do to fix it. There was a lot of guessing going on from everyone. If notice the post from EWING, EWING didn’t have any information on the problem and never posted a solution !!!

Note: if they have indeed moved the Install directory, you may have to manually set the environment variables that reference Xcode.

I’m not upset, but this problem wastes a lot of time.
Good Luck !!! [import]uid: 11150 topic_id: 20374 reply_id: 87410[/import]

@jjwhite, Thank you very much for POSTING HERE! Afff…

Man, I`ve spent ALL MY DAY on this thing! I am still downloading AGAIN Xcode 4.2.1 Lion and will have to UNINSTALL all that 4.3 Xcode files (that arent little)! OMG…I do not know what to say.
BTW, many thanks for sharing (one-on-one) your finds and thoughts about it. Looks like that just 2 developers (us) here did update the Xcode version! o.O (am impressed).

PS: Now Ive learned the hard lesson! NEVER more will install "news/fresh" updates, even for Mac OSX. ONLY after ANSCA says: YES, Corona will WORK with Apples products updates.

Bah…it`s not nice. :frowning:
Thank you,
Rodrigo. [import]uid: 89165 topic_id: 20374 reply_id: 87412[/import]

Xcode 4.3 is a huge change. Everybody is still trying to sort out this mess, not just Corona users. (I got a flurry of emails from open source projects I’ve been involved with over the years wondering how to deal with this.) We don’t get any more information than you do about what’s changed or when Xcode is released so we’re struggling to figure this out like everybody else.

From my testing, Xcode 4.3 b3, did work with the latest daily builds except for the Xcode/iOS Simulator launching. I did a complete removal of Xcode 4.2 and installed Xcode 4.3 to test this.

Two important things to verify:

  • When you download Xcode from the App Store, you must run it (and it’s internal ‘installer’ which Apple doesn’t call an ‘installer’).
  • After that is done, on the Terminal/command line run:
    xcode-select -print-path
And verify that the path looks reasonable.
I always recommend you keep a copy of your Xcode download so you don’t have to redownload it in case of problems. Also, Time Machine backups are a good idea. Xcode 4.3+ will probably start doing delta updates eventually so that means it will be harder to reinstall from a pre downloaded package.

@Eric, thanks for the input!

Yes, looks like the new Xcode 4.3 came with a huge change in its installation.

BY NOW am finished with it. I just installed the version 4.2.1 again for Lion and Voilá. Wont go to update anything UNTIL some of you from Ansca Staff tell us to do so!

I`ve been into a lot of problems after updated from 4.2 to 4.3 and I do not want to see it again (at least soon).

PS: I would have run that line of code in the Terminal to try to find the “new” xcode path BUT I did not think about that.

PS2: Ive installed the Xcode 4.3 from Mac AppStore as Apple sent a newslatter yesterday saying so because after the 4.3 looks like (as you mentioned above too) well update our Xcode via “normal updates” (as the others apps we have installed from Mac appstore) and so I did not have that “install pack” that we need to download and “execute” after that to install it. Downloading from the Mac Appstore this time was like downloading any other app from there and so Xcode have been installed into the Application folder of Lion (I`ve never seen that before - only into the Developer folder). But is it what I got…so many changes and I was lost without know that you guys at Ansca were/are having troubles with it too. o.O
Hope you get a solution for this issue as I believe many of us will fall into it too. :frowning:

Thanks,
Rodrigo. [import]uid: 89165 topic_id: 20374 reply_id: 87448[/import]

The daily builds (at least 749) seems to fix this. The life of a Pro subscriber is good  [import]uid: 5822 topic_id: 20374 reply_id: 87470[/import]

Wow, already fixed?

[import]uid: 89165 topic_id: 20374 reply_id: 87482[/import]

I put in a fix back in beta 2. I don’t remember the build number. I wasn’t sure if beta 3 broke more things or if they were the same problems. As of today, I think the Xcode simulator install/launching is still broken. (You can manually install apps and launch them if you look up the tricks.)
[import]uid: 7563 topic_id: 20374 reply_id: 87523[/import]

@eric…you`re quick. :slight_smile:

BTW I prefer to wait your or other Ansca staff final`s word about this sibject (Xcode 4.3) as man, I lost all my day yesterday getting that to work as expected and at the final you already know - failure. So when it be stable with you guys, so I will install 4.3 again.

Thanks,
Rodrigo. [import]uid: 89165 topic_id: 20374 reply_id: 87587[/import]

I’m testing Xcode 4.3 final and I’m starting to wonder if xcode-select is even installed any more. I can’t tell if it was left behind from my previous installation or if they actually do install it.

Regardless, this time, my xcode-select was not set to anything which caused the Corona error message to be displayed.

I had to manually set xcode-select to:

sudo xcode-select -switch /absolute_path_to_xcode/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer
Typically this will now be
/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer

The Xcode/iOS simulator is still busted.

@Eric,

Looks like this new Apple update of Xcode 4.3 is totally different than what we`re used to have/see.

Since yesterday I did not understand why Xcode after be downloaded from the Mac appstore was installed directly into the Mac Applications folder (as I said, it wasnt like this until 4.2.1) and so I think it is the mejor reason that Xcode is “breaking” Corona.

Also looks like that Xcode now does not care about the Developer (Mac folder) anymore as well as the other applications into that folder (as instruments, quartz, etc). I think Xcode now has all those other applications “into itself” or at least the “call” for those apps is there.

BTW I did not understand all of this and why Apple cannot stop itself to spread thousands of updates in so short time and even many that looks like is “untested” as well. :[

Rodrigo. [import]uid: 89165 topic_id: 20374 reply_id: 87593[/import]

I used xcode-select too, and then device builds are made - I never use the simulator. But a bette fix for this with maybe some instructions wouldbe nice for everyone running XCode 4.3

I do have to test the app on the device but assume that will be fine as it’s the same build. i’ll report back after the weekend. [import]uid: 5822 topic_id: 20374 reply_id: 87630[/import]

Wow. Major mistake. Trying to install Apple Xcode 4.3.
Too many missteps to relate but I’m trying to go back to 4.2.
I restored the Developer folder from Time Machine no problem.
Xcode 4.2 appears to run now.
However when I try to Build for iOS under Corona I get the following:

The iOS SDK located at /Applications is missing the following component(s):
pbxcp
copypng
codesign_allocate
Please (re)install the the iOS SDK.

I don’t have any way to “reinstall” XCode 4.2 since I no longer have the install package.
What magic sudo command do I need to type in?
Any help would be very appreciated.
Thanks all,
-Dennis

@dennis, if you are a registered Apple Developer you can catch the .dmg download for Xcode 4.2 or even 4.2.1 (as I did myself) via your Apple Developer Member Center -> iOS -> Downloads -> Files available for downloading (should be at the right side of the webpage - as into the right side colum.

I am unable to give you the direct link as well because of that URL being protected by Apples side but as I said, I was in this trouble as well as you are now (I said my dilema some posts above) and was able to download the 1.8Gb .dmg (Xcode 4.2.1) from Apples Developer member center.
I hope that helps!
BTW I know you`ll get it as I did and others as well… BUT this Xcode trouble is very disturbing!

Best of luck,
Rodrigo. [import]uid: 89165 topic_id: 20374 reply_id: 87676[/import]

Thank you Rodrigo.
I was finally able to find and install 4.2.1 and once I went through some more rigamarole I was able to build for iOS as before.
Sheesh!
What a disaster.
And the Mac is supposed to be so easy to use (I’m a PC guy from way back)
This whole scheme ranks right up there with getting a virus on my PC and trying to correct it.
The Mac is great when nothing goes wrong but heaven help you when it does.
I also agree I am not touching anything more for awhile as long as everything works.
What was I thinking?
Again my thanks.
Cheers,
-Dennis
