@horacebury, are there new UI controls in this build? [import]uid: 9371 topic_id: 5435 reply_id: 18565[/import]
Hmmm, What should I buy, Lime, Spritedeck or both?..
Nerderer has made a pretty useful Gui tool that runs on silverlight though and it’s completely free for the time being…
[import]uid: 6762 topic_id: 5435 reply_id: 18569[/import]
I vote both, as despite the eerily similar web design they are very different tools. It really depends on what you are after. [import]uid: 5833 topic_id: 5435 reply_id: 18573[/import]
You are probably right. Both sounds like a good plan.
Lime is only 20 squids if bought now and £19.66 per quarter for Spritedeck is pretty reasonable too considering the time it will save.
[import]uid: 6762 topic_id: 5435 reply_id: 18574[/import]
I don’t think so - but they are promised in the next drop, I believe… [import]uid: 8271 topic_id: 5435 reply_id: 18579[/import]
I think I recall somewhere Carlos mentioning that they don’t actually need XCode installed but it’s there so as not to antagonise the big A.
If this is the reason then it makes building from Windows less likely, not more likely. [import]uid: 12108 topic_id: 5435 reply_id: 18588[/import]
Great to finally see support for async http and bitmap masking: thanks Ansca!!
As for the “big” news: I can see how this is a huge thing for Ansca as a company, because it’s their ticket to reaching Android developers. But for most existing users, this is of limited value. Seriously overhyped IMHO. [import]uid: 6795 topic_id: 5435 reply_id: 18661[/import]
@carlos, with the new subscription model, does this means that all who got the license before are now considered Pro? or are we now indie and if we want to deploy to both we need to upgrade our license? [import]uid: 7856 topic_id: 5435 reply_id: 18730[/import]
> But for most existing users, this is of limited value.
No, it’s not a cool new toy/feature to play with, but look at the “big picture…”
-
Companies that don’t make money don’t stay in business. If you expand your market your chances of staying in business greatly increase. If Ansca were to go bye-bye so would all of us devs.
-
A larger market means more users. When you have more users…
2a. The parent company can afford to hire more engineers to make even cooler features.
2b. Third-party tool vendors take notice and create utilities, libraries, etc., that all us devs can use. -
The community increases so there are more people sharing code, answering questions, etc.
There’s nothing worse than using an awesome language/platform that has such a tiny user base that nobody knows (or cares) about it. It’s hard to find add-ons, tutorials, etc.
Ansca has done something HUGE, and not just for their business, but also for everyone who uses Corona SDK to create cool games and apps.
That’s my take on it, anyway.

just a quick note. you do need xode to create the app file for iOS and you will also need Java installed to create the apk.
OS-X comes with java pre-installed. So Android has never been an issue in OSX- Windows is a bit different.
But for iOS apps, XCode is a must from several fronts. One of them being a EULA for developers. I don’t want to go into details but feel free to read it. Two, we do use XCode to produce a bona-fide app. We use the XCode tool chain to do all the steps that one would do if they were using XCode and build for device. PNGCrush, Digital Signature signing, etc…
The last thing you would want is for the big “A” to change the signing process or anything in the build chain to fit their needs and pooof…

Hi Carlos, can we have custom Android device of sizes 320x480 and 960x640 for development on the Windows version of Corona SDK. it sometimes helps to set the elements visually.
cheers,

Hey Carlos,
I am very interested in the SVG parser you are talking about in your blog. Will we be able to use the vectors to directly define collision detection? I am starting in on a project and we can always go svg -> png for now if it is worth starting with svg to define collision better in the future. Let me know your thoughts as it will determine the direction we take.
Thanks,

Hey Carlos,
Now Corona is on Windows, any plans for WP7?
How about an ETA for 2.5d image transforms?
Thanks,
Matt
Ps: Oh, what about makeToast() ? [import]uid: 8271 topic_id: 5435 reply_id: 19178[/import]
First let me say big thanks to Corona team for great new features!
I would like to use the latest release but I have the following issue with it.
If I build my app for Android (Nexus One) with 268 release it’s visibly slower then the same app build with 243 release.
It’s mostly obvious when I touch the screen and a new object is being generated in my game.
I remember that there was similar issue with touch events in previous releases but it has been fixed in 243 one.
Does someone experience the same?
Thanks,
Dusan

Dpavlica i have been having the same problem. It seems something is up with multitouch as well. Code that used to work perfect now doesome wierd stuff i sent it in to see if they could figure it out so hopefully it will be adressed and fix ure problem as well. The Goole Nexus S has a known bug and due to a bug in Android 1.6 we were trying to fix, we introduced and injection.
A top priority is to bring up Android now that we pushed out the iOS version out of the way.

Huh. Getting back into Corona now that it’s mostly brimming with goodness and I see that I’m part of a guess-what’s-in-the-SVG-box competition that I wasn’t aware of.
You know me Carlos, I’m be the one asking all those annoying questions again. This time though - Corona has grown a lot. Will be contributing a whole bunch of interesting stuff back to the community (which seems to have grown a LOT bigger since.)
