Tuesday, January 25th at 9:00am (PST) - Something big is going to happen.

Now, now, be nice…

Agreed, I re-read what I’d wrote and realised it was unnecessary. [import]uid: 11393 topic_id: 5435 reply_id: 18496[/import]

Hmmm … Win version is Android only.

The In-App and async http/s are much more exciting. And the promised daily drops. [import]uid: 10209 topic_id: 5435 reply_id: 18498[/import]

How does it work with the provisioning profiles etc? Does this mean you don’t need a MAC at all to submit to app store?

It’s Android builds only on windows. You have access to the Corona Simulator (Android only) but you must still have a Mac to build for iOS. It’s not perfect but at least it’s workable. [import]uid: 11393 topic_id: 5435 reply_id: 18499[/import]

Ta… [import]uid: 9371 topic_id: 5435 reply_id: 18500[/import]

To be fair, if the binary output for iOS has to run through XCode (and it does) then building iOS apps isn’t possible on Windows - but of course building the App for Android and designing the interface to be device-unspecific is good discipline and useful for testing iOS apps in the Windows simulator. Plus, it will allow Ansca to add WP7 as an build output later (if they’re not already on the case!)

Thanks a lot !! This is awesome !

Without being ungrateful, when does the daily builds start ?

(Push notifications, mapview improvement queries hidden in this message  )

Again, Thanks a lot !!! [import]uid: 3638 topic_id: 5435 reply_id: 18502[/import]

Coooool! Just gave Corona a little tinkle on Windows! This is so perfect for me as my Mac mini lives in my home office but my Windows laptop generally hangs out with me in the front room.

This means I don’t have to abandon my wife in the evenings by disappearing into my bolt hole at night which means that I can give Corona some more love and finally get my app finished!

Way to go Carlos and crew! [import]uid: 6762 topic_id: 5435 reply_id: 18504[/import]

WOOHOO!!! I have just started downloading the Windows build for Corona SDK! Thanks Corona! [import]uid: 11930 topic_id: 5435 reply_id: 18510[/import]

People talking about internet issues with a connection dropping out on their Macs, it isn’t a Mac issue per se, it’s your modem/router/whatever.

Cheap Dlinks are the worst at this.

Thrilled with the new release. Having a lot of fun with it.

F’k, I love Corona! [import]uid: 10144 topic_id: 5435 reply_id: 18529[/import]

@horacebury

i thought the binary output was created on the ansca servers and sent back? or is their server just used for license validation?

[import]uid: 6645 topic_id: 5435 reply_id: 18530[/import]

You wouldn’t need to download the XCode compiler and own a personal registration if that were the case. As I understand it, Corona builds the lua into Obj-C, then passes it to XCode to compile to target binary. The same is done locally for Android (Java) builds. This is why you can’t build for iOS on Windows - if it were built on the server you’d be able to build for iOS on Windows, just not run it.

m [import]uid: 8271 topic_id: 5435 reply_id: 18538[/import]

I think I recall somewhere Carlos mentioning that they don’t actually need XCode installed but it’s there so as not to antagonise the big A.

If you run the activity monitor you can see no increase in CPU usage at all during the entire process of “compilation”. The only slight increase in CPU usage comes when the resources are copied into the compiled app file (you can see it happening in the debug window).

So I’m guessing we send lua code, Ansca converts to ObjC and compiles, sends back an app file, Corona adds the resources (images etc) to the app file, app file is signed.

EDIT: As for Android I’m sure it’s done in a similar fashion because I know I haven’t installed any JDK or the Android SDK in order to be able to compile locally. [import]uid: 11393 topic_id: 5435 reply_id: 18540[/import]

So, until now we can be sure about:

Windows + GUI + microSites + IAP + masking + asyncHttp
What is even more interesting for me is the upcoming possibility to draw vector graphics in FW/AI/Inkscape that can be imported in Corona with the curves being manipulatable in realtime with code! That would be really fascinating, as you could “draw” and animate rich graphic scenes without png images (that means: universal graphics and minimal app filesize).
Well done Ansca !!! [import]uid: 7356 topic_id: 5435 reply_id: 18542[/import]

Looks like the cat’s out of the bag? I downloaded Windows Corona and it looks great. For a second there, I thought that a new drag-n-drop GUI was going to be released.

Like it or not, intentional or not, your platform is in direct competition with GameSalad, and if you did just that, it would have put a world of hurt on them.
[import]uid: 6084 topic_id: 5435 reply_id: 18544[/import]

Do I win a prize for *almost* predicting it perfectly Carlos?

I’ll bet there is some truth that they could pull it off without drawing an OS X dependency. It probably is only this way to APPease someone; and maybe due to Keychain signing complexities

Anyway, I am falling in love with the platform. I am so glad I found it.

Shaun [import]uid: 11196 topic_id: 5435 reply_id: 18551[/import]

For sure - universal builds, Windows, masking and more native UI controls are really exciting - so many apps possible right there its crazy.

I’m also sure that the moment 2.5d manipulation of images is available someone will produce a 3D library for corona (ok, yes, probably just loading in an existing lua lib from somewhere, but I don’t know where.)

Really exciting times - so glad I got in when I did!

Yawn … Waking up… What’s the excitement about?

Did I miss something?

I will be on skype - handle anscamobile - for about 30 mins
