Tutorial: Making a Slot Machine!

Hello once again!

This will unfortunately be the last tutorial for about 3 or 4 days, but hopefully you will find it the best of the three so far

I hope you enjoy! Heres the link:
Tutorial: Making a Slot Machine!

Its a bit more advanced than the last two… But it should be more helpful! The tutorial goes slightly into creating sprites using newImageSheets and shows you how to use arrays to your advantage in loops. Thanks go to Naomi for suggesting i try a slot machine tutorial, i had no idea if i could actually make a slot machine, but it appears i can
(I kind of feel like I’m spamming the forums with these tutorials, sorry peach :P)
Incase you missed the last two days tutorials, you can see them here:
Tutorial: Space Shooter in 240 Lines!
Tutorial: Defense Game in 200 Lines!

Any questions just ask away, or if you have a suggestion for the next tutorial, please feel free to tell me here, on twitter or anywhere else you may find me

Thanks again,
Jamie from T and G Apps Ltd.

Wow, awesome! You did this in no time. Thank you for taking this on. I can’t wait to check this out.

No problem

Your suggestion was an interesting one, so i thought id give it a go to see how easy or hard a slot machine would be to create.

Personally i have no idea how to use slot machines in real life, so i just made this a basic “match 2” or “match 3” images for rewards kind of machine. Didn’t go too badly in the end!

If you have any other good suggestions I’m all ears  [import]uid: 69826 topic_id: 24854 reply_id: 100844[/import]

Hey, Jamie, you offered it. So here’s another one. How about word game, like scrabble. Let’s say a player is given a specific set of letters, and the user must create a word out of it. Say, it must be at least 3 letters long, and user must tap on each letter in order to form a word. Once the user is done, the game would validate whether or not such word exists. I suppose it would require a use of dictionary, and would be rather complex, but I wonder how complex that can be.

Naomi

P.S., BTW, when I mentioned how quickly you put the slot-machine code together to my husband, he said, “this guy should be hired immediately.” Perhaps lots of deep-pocket users of the forum might be reaching out to you now. But yeah, if you have time to put together this word game tutorial, I’d so love to see it. [import]uid: 67217 topic_id: 24854 reply_id: 100870[/import]

I had a feeling you would say a word game next! I’ve never done one of them either, but I will give it a go sometime this week when I have some time. It definitely sounds more complex, but im sure it would be helpful to a fair few people.

Haha thanks  I’m not sure when, but I’ll give that tutorial a go and post it up too! [import]uid: 69826 topic_id: 24854 reply_id: 100944[/import]

Another fantastic tutorial! Nicely done Jamie

If you haven’t done a word game before check out my boggle clone on Techority, it might help you with some of the elements. (It has the functionality to check a word against a list of approved words, for example.)

Again, really awesome stuff  [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 24854 reply_id: 100969[/import]

Thanks peach

Ahh awesome, I’ll go check that out in a bit then! That sounds like one of the key parts I’ll be after, thanks. [import]uid: 69826 topic_id: 24854 reply_id: 101000[/import]

That sounds great!

Cheers,

First tutorial don’t work anymore…link is broken

Thanks for letting me know!

You can use this link to access the tutorial: http://www.tandgapps.co.uk/resources/tutorial-making-a-slot-machine/

Please bear in mind that it hasn’t yet been updated to graphics 2.0, and therefore it won’t work in the latest public release. We are just finishing up updates on our templates, then we will go about updating the tutorials as well.

Thanks,

Jamie

Hey the website links are broken they were working a day ago

The  tandg website is down.

Thanks for the emails and messages. All back up and running now!

Please note that the tutorials in the thread were made over two years ago now and are mainly outdated. We will be updating our resource centre in the next week or so, removing old links and gathering new tutorials. We will keep you updated!

I see they are out dated I just use them to see the functionality for better programming tecniques
