Uploading an updated app to iTunes

Is there are easy to follow, step by step guide about uploading apps to itunes? I managed to get my first two up there, but I barely understand what I did. Apples support is not exactly clear for a newbie. Now I need to update the apps with a bug fix, and I have no idea what to do, especially since I built them in Corona. The only instructions I can find on the apple site say the following…

"The App Store uses three pieces of information in your application to identify a submission as an update to an existing application. *When you are submitting an update of your application to iTunes Connect for App Store distribution, make sure to:

Use the same Distribution Provisioning Profile to build each new version of your application
Increment the CFBundleVersion and CFBundleShortVersionString values in your project Info.plist file. Note: Version numbers must be period-delimited sequences of positive integers (1.0 to 1.1, or 2.2.1 to 2.2.2)."
This means very little to me and their demo images are for their software not Corona! HELP PLEASE! [import]uid: 63102 topic_id: 11268 reply_id: 311268[/import]

Open your updated app ready to build in Corona, hit CMB+B and then for Version put in something higher than “1”.

Build and submit  [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 11268 reply_id: 41263[/import]

Peach,

That sounds great, except then I get a message that says…

“No eligible applications were found. To add an application with Application Loader, you must first log in to iTunes Connect and provide information about the application you will be adding.”

But I cant find anywhere to add any information.

Any ideas? [import]uid: 63102 topic_id: 11268 reply_id: 41268[/import]

Ok, I’m an idiot. LOL. I finally figured it out. I was overlooking the “Add Version” button. Duh.

Thanks! [import]uid: 63102 topic_id: 11268 reply_id: 41270[/import]

You aren’t an idiot; sorry, I should have pointed that out too. Sometimes I forget how tricky it can be the first time.

Glad you got it figured!

Thanks for the support Peach! As someone trying to overcome the double financial challenges of unemployment and cancer (and yes I am better, but still paying bills!) this is a lot to learn! And now that I have two apps published, with more coming, I am facing the marketing challenges too! It’s a lot of new information all at once. Thanks again.

Hey rjd,

I understand the financial challenges all too well; I can offer a little advice in that regard if you’re interested at all. (My personal email is peachpellen at gmail.)

As to the rest of it, I’m sorry to hear that although glad that you are doing better - health issues are never easy, especially not when they’re so severe.

Best wishes,
Peach  [import]uid: 52491 topic_id: 11268 reply_id: 41469[/import]

Hi Peach, what happened to the Add Version button? how do you update to a different version now? I change the version number before I built it, but I get the No eligible…etc. you must first log in…
I have already uploaded version 1.0 there, awaiting approval. it that the issue?
thank you!!! [import]uid: 124116 topic_id: 11268 reply_id: 122307[/import]

@mkelly

Yeah, you can’t upload an update until the previous version has been approved.

If you have a crucial bug fix, you’ll need to reject the binary in ‘binary details’ on the version summary screen, and re-submit. This will put you right to the back of the queue for review though so only do it if you really can’t afford for version 1.0 to go public as is. I tried this method:

  1. Log in https://itunesconnect.apple.com

  2. went to manage your application

  3. went to “Binary details”; clicked on It.

  4. “Rejected Binary” option. clicked it.

  5. Itunes asked that did you change any encryption in previous binary. No…

  6. clicked “done”.

  7. tried again with Application Loader

  8. it now found my zipped app and was ready to send it; went through the process; got hung up at end with these messages:
Apple’s web service operation was not successful
Unable to authenticate the package: 558024557.itmsp
Exception occurred when creating MZContentProviderUpload for provider. (1004)

now my original upload is gone and I can’t replace it. yikes!. [import]uid: 124116 topic_id: 11268 reply_id: 122311[/import]

tried it again with the app loader that came with Xcode; same version number. for some reason, it worked. I’ve read where others had to do multiple tries. maybe that was it. I don’t know. I just know it’s up there.

thanks!!! [import]uid: 124116 topic_id: 11268 reply_id: 122315[/import]

Thanks for updating Mike - a few people mentioned having issues recently while uploading, maybe something on Apple’s side this week? Either way glad to hear you were able to get your app uploaded  - also, I hope you doing well, seems like forever since I just got to say “Hi” or “Sup”.
