Using "trial" version on Windows but building for App Store on Mac indie version

Hi,

My subscription is about to expire and I am looking at my options… My Mac is getting a bit old and it is struggling to keep up as my main machine (meaning email, web, iTunes, RSS, video and development all at the same time). But if I use it just for development and don’t run any other apps, it is just fine.

So here is what I am thinking: Since I have a better Windows machine with more memory etc, can I use the trial version of Corona to develop on Windows and run in the Corona Simulator and then move over to the Mac which will have an iOS indie subscription for final test and build.

Will that work???

Thanks,

Hey Gary,

You could do that, yes - however you obviously wouldn’t be able to use daily builds which may not be ideal when bug fixes and new features are pushed out.

Peach,

Thanks for your reply… I guess if I have an iOS indie license I can at least get the daily builds for my Mac which will be useful during the final test, build and submit phase???
Am I right??

You are correct - although you should weigh up the difference in price compared to the cost of productivity.

By that I mean if there’s a bug and it’s fixed in a daily build, or a new feature you wish to implement, it’s going to make adding that, or continuing to work on the app after implementation on your windows machine, near impossible. (For example if you called timer.pause or timer.resume back when it was only in a daily it would work on Mac but for PC you’d have to stop using it as it would make the app fall over.)

I actually have two (paid) Corona accounts because I use 3 computers - I had been using the trial version on one of my laptops but for the reasons above it became too much of an issue.

To be clear this is entirely my own opinion based on my experiences as a Corona developer - it isn’t my job to up-sell you, I just want you to know the pros and cons.

TL;DR - Yes it’s possible but consider lack of features/fixes.
