Video Streaming Plug-In written in Enterprise

  1. Does anyone know of a Corona plug-in to provide for support of video streaming? I’m not talking about YouTube support. I’m talking about support for a legitimate streaming server connected to a Corona App.

  2. Can anyone provide any advice about this endeavor, because I plan to hire a developer to make this and it will undoubtedly be useful for the community.

  3. Can anyone recommend a particular Enterprise developer to write this?

  4. Is there a specific reason why Corona Labs (now Fuse) has not created this plug-in themselves? Are their obstacles I am unaware of?

Thank you for any assistance or advice.

Very kindly,

-Troy

  1. you found the Corona Enterprise developer to do this! I’ve written a couple dozen plugins as orders for customers. Please contact me at deleurapps@gmail.com and we can discuss specifics of what you need.

To answer #4 we base what features we add based on what things we feel benefit the community as a whole. I hate to quote Star Trek, but the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.  We also have to factor difficulty of what you want into the equation as well.  For instance, adding text fields to the Windows simulator is very hlghly requested and would be of great benefit, but it’s too difficult.

I scanned the feature request site at http://feedback.coronalabs.com and there are a decent number of requests for audio streaming, but I didn’t see any requests for video streaming.  Right now, I only know of a few people that want this.  It’s not something I would say is even on our radar.

Finally, this is not easy. There are multiple streaming protocols (see: http://www.garymcgath.com/streamingprotocols.html). Which would we implement?

Can I suggest you send out a monthly survey to give the community the opportunity to help prioritize features it needs? I think many developers such as myself do not know what impact our feature requests actually have, or we would be writing you more frequently, a lot more frequently.

IMHO, I believe video streaming in-game (full screen and in a constrained rect) would be high on the list. Many high-end games include video.

This is why we have the feedback site.  Create an entry and get the community to vote it up.
