Just wanted to post this in case somebody else ran into this issue.
I installed wp8 corona cards with visual studio express 2012 for windows phone. I found that it became quite unresponsive and was running one of my cpu cores at 100%. I went to Tools->Extensions and Updates and it failed with a popup box saying it didn’t have access to the corona card extension. I reopened visual studio with admin privileges and everything worked great!
I think this is a bug in Visual Studio, because I’ve seen it slam my CPU at 100% and the IDE becoming unresponsive to me too when working on non-Corona projects. To resolve it, I have to minimize Visual Studio by clicking it on the Windows task bar, restore the window by clicking it on the task bar again, close Visual Studio, and then re-open it. (Assuming you’re running into the same issue.)
I don’t recall this happening to me in Visual Studio 2013 “Update 2”. So, Microsoft might have fixed it now. Note that Visual Studio 2013 is at Update 3 now, but I haven’t done a lot of testing on it yet. Plan on doing so later this week.
