VMware + Corona v. 2011.704 problem

I use MacOs 10.7.2 on VMware emulator. I have problem with last build of Corona 2011.704.
Corona simulator shows black screen and writes following message in terminal:

2011-12-23 14:29:02.362 Corona Simulator[221:2403] Error: Could not choose main OpenGL pixel format! Are you on a headless Mac? Please plug in a display if you are. Trying fallback, but Apple seems to have bugs with this.
What it can mean? And what to do? [import]uid: 38610 topic_id: 19549 reply_id: 319549[/import]

Yeah, I have this problem too. I’ve resorted to having two virtual machines - one I use to install the latest daily builds and one with build 591 installed to use while I’m developing.

The VMWare OS X guess will never work until a graphics driver that supports QE/CI graphics is created. Apple is allowing OS X server to run virtualized now, maybe VMWare will create the needed driver. [import]uid: 111079 topic_id: 19549 reply_id: 75490[/import]

I share the pain of whoever is having this issue. I used to run 10.6.x on vmware just fine with Corona pre 704. I then decided to upgrade my vm to Lion and take the chance to try the all new Corona SDK. All downhill from there! But I do come with an explanation, and possibly a solution.

tchamberlain was right in his post. Until a proper driver is created for osx on vmware, the virtual machine can not ever support QE/CI. I also failed with Xcode’s OpenGL profiler. Apparently Nvidia and Vmware are working on this. Currently though, a virtual machine can only access a generic graphic display with limited memory (128MB) as the graphic card cannot be detached from the host machine (from my basic understanding).

However, on Lion I also noticed a problem with YouTube videos. I could hear the sound but the video stayed black. I remembered that was not happening on my Snow Leopard installation.

I therefore tried installing Corona 714 on my previous 10.6.7 installation and it works just as fine as it did before! I was able to run a proper game app I developed few months back.

Bottom line, use OS X 10.6.x (Snow Leopard) on vmware rather than Lion. A very small price to pay indeed. I’m happy again! Hope it works for you too. [import]uid: 68130 topic_id: 19549 reply_id: 81113[/import]

VMWare + Corona is not supported because of existing Apple OpenGL bugs. We also don’t test running Corona under VMWare.

Hi Luca,

Hi,

i install Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and its working with Corona 2011.704.

Really Thanks Luca2. [import]uid: 87077 topic_id: 19549 reply_id: 81507[/import]

I confirm. Corona 2011.704 working on macos 10.6.8. [import]uid: 38610 topic_id: 19549 reply_id: 81878[/import]

@José I’m glad the 2 days I wasted on this were of help to someone. Let’s hope Apple releases an update to Lion which fixes this or when they drop support for Xcode on Snow Leopard we’re doomed  [import]uid: 68130 topic_id: 19549 reply_id: 81987[/import]
