Go cross-platform with ease

Corona is the best solution for developing cross-platform apps for all major platforms and devices. Write once and build to iOS, Android, Kindle Fire and NOOK at the touch of a button. Corona makes dealing with different device sizes and resolutions easy.

We’ll take care of the heavy lifting and take away the pain of platform fragmentation.

Cross-platform

Leverage industry standards

Corona is built on industry standards including OpenGL, OpenAL, Google Maps, Box2D, Facebook, Game Center, in-app purchases and much more.

Using Corona, you’ll enjoy access to the same stack used by the most sophisticated development studios, without having to employ a team of engineers to maintain your platform.

“…Build once deploy anywhere?”…“industry standards…open?”  Sounds like the perfect SDK!

Ya, as is usually the case when something is too good to be true…

I bet you Corona folks can’t say those 2 monikers above with a straight face and giggle hard whenever that is said aloud am I right?  Since Apple won’t accept iOS apps built a windows pc(from YOUR FAQ).  Also from the native controls api documentation where they don’t work in the simulator and thus you have to build, install on the device, THEN test it.  Really?  Where’s the industry standard input text fields? All I see are native controls for user input that you can’t test in the simulator when you develop on a pc.  Last time I checked, a great overwhelming majority of people have pcs and not macs.  Did I miss the small print somewhere that says something like Corona is really for macs?

How can you make these claims about industry standards and openX when your FAQ says that builds done on a windows pc will not be accepted by Apple?  Apple is draconian and extreemly proprietary.  Look up Control Freak in the dictonary and there’s Steve Jobs and the Apple logo.

So folks, be ADVISED that you either have to buy or own a Mac and build it on that or buy a subscription to macincloud.com and build on that.  You won’t get your ipad app/game accepted by Apple if you build it on a pc(or a pc without installing corona in the virtual macincloud.com subscription service.

Ya, I am pretty pissed off at the moment because I think I just wasted a whole lot of time and effort trying to learn Corona.

At over 30 years old, this might be the first time I respond to a troll on the internet.

Agreed, Corona isn’t perfect. It’s built on an open language, and there are several solutions that use Lua for game/app creation. If all you want to do is make games, you can use GameMaker, Stencyl, or you can even go to Unity for free since they are moving to support 2D games right out of the box.

What you are going to find is that you will be doing a lot of “learning to use”, rather than actually “making” with any other architecture. The spin-up on Lua/Corona is so short compared to other development solutions, that it’s worth it in many cases to go with Corona. True, you are going to find some things that are less than ideal. I think Carlos and Peach both would agree with that. However, you will also find that if you want to make something dead-simple and push it out to as many devices as you can in as short a time as possible, you’ll be hard pressed to find an option better than Corona.

If you’re looking for something/someone to hold your hand throughout the development process, provide you with a development platform that perfectly mirrors everything in code as it does in real-world use and makes toast all at the same time, you are going to be severely disappointed. I’m not a schill nor do I work for Corona; I’m just an actual person in the world who has tested other options and found this one the most tenable from what was available at the time. Do with this information what you will.

Last time I checked, a great overwhelming majority of people have pcs and not macs.

Pretty much 99% of iOS developers own Macs.

I can see you didn’t comprehend my post. Of course they do as would be expected but when I see a download for Windows version of Corona I expect it to work and their billed smilulator to actually you know uh simulate?

I would expect to be able to instantiate some kind of control that allows me to input, that’s ok that is not native, I guess you could always go back and refactor and put in the code changes to add the native control.  All that I’ve found is native controls and I would think that since they mention in their feature adds that its open this and open that either 1). The simulator substitues or 2). There are non native Open type textfields to use instead.  With either 1 or 2 that would allow testing.

Now If Corona can’t build for iOS apps using a windows pc then I would NOT expect to see those blurbs as they are currently where they declare “…code once, deploy anywhere…”  Do you follow me?  It’s called truth in advertising.  If they were truthful then I would expect a *windows pc may not build iOS apps.  I am mad over being lied too, is that a crime nowdays?

I did learn a valuable piece of information though in this and that is to make sure to find out if a SDK really does what it says and read the FAQ first before jumping in and learning something new.  You can’t blame me though, that is the way its billed as a fast and easy SDK.  THAT I like, despite some parts having a learnng curve but overall its nice.  But to find out when they say code once, deploy anyware and offer both mac and win versions and then come to find out you can’t build ios when they say you can is wrong.

At over 30 years old, this might be the first time I respond to a troll on the internet.

I didn’t know that being angry due to  being misled and expressing my dis-satisfaction with a company’s product qualified one as a troll?  Seems reasonable.

HA! Just to catch everyone up that is reading this post, our boy Dave sent me a personal message questioning my knowledge of the United States constitution, going on to quote a definition of what a troll is, and then hoping I would avoid any additional embarrassment in “the forums”. So, so sweet.

I’m not trying to start a flamewar here brah. You wanna troll, knock yourself out. Do you want some help? I’d be glad to provide it. I couldn’t really tell what kind of information you were after from your post. Are you looking for Corona alternatives? Are you looking to vent? Do you want a hug? Are you just upset that a for-profit company made their product seem better than it really was?

I did provide some actual tips in my response post, but I will repeat and elaborate on them here for you. If you are making a game, check out Stencyl or GameSalad as they are pretty much plug-and-play as far as game apps are concerned. If you’re not making a game, I’d suggest taking a look at http://mobile.tutsplus.com as they have some quality free tutorials for iOS and Android development. Do you not have a mac but want to develop for iOS? Check out macbreaker.com to learn how to run Lion in a VM.

Let me know if I can provide any additional help or details on the above.

and how much did you pay for corona? give someone something for free and they still complain

wow, 2 real trolls.  The op was not meant for you self righteous trolls to respond to, it was for a Corona customer server rep/developer.  Trolls are a trolls are want to do I see.

i was in the process of coming up with a solution for text fields for you. but never mind ill spend my time somewhere else.

Oy…

Here’s the other post where Dave asks how one would get around developing for iOS without a Mac:

http://forums.coronalabs.com/topic/39130-how-do-i-test-input-fields-in-the-windows-simulator-if-they-are-not-supported/#entry203084

Dave, if you look at J and my posts, you’ll see that we are all about providing helpful info. When Rob and Brent take a look at this post, I’m not really sure what kind of solution they could provide to you. I get it: you feel like you got the old bait-and-switch pulled on you. No one likes that. Both J and myself were just trying to be helpful. You didn’t like to be called a troll, and as you can see from J’s response above, neither does he. I get that too. But posting something inflammatory without asking any concrete questions or looking for useful information is a real trollish thing to do.

Basically, I just wanted to help. If you find out how best to develop for iOS on a Windows computer and couple that solution with the ease of Corona, I guarantee you will be a billionaire.

i’ll be the better person. its not text fields but will do what you need.

@J: situations like this are what made me stop posting for months, and devs like you are the reason I wanted to help out again. Handshakes all around.

@P

thx, cant help myself i just enjoy helping out its not in my nature not to. wasnt raised that way

Can I respectfully ask that this thread relax for a bit?  I’m okay with discussing issues about how cross platform we are.  But given that this is running in another thread in a more polite manner, I’m tempted to just close this one.  I’ll leave it open for the moment.

I encourage others to visit the other thread to discuss the native keyboard issues:

http://forums.coronalabs.com/topic/39130-how-do-i-test-input-fields-in-the-windows-simulator-if-they-are-not-supported/#entry203084

This one can continue if you want to discuss cross platform issues, but if it continues it’s negative slope, I’ll close it.  This will be the only reminder/warning.
