What is Corona Labs smoking?

Corona Labs ?@CoronaLabs
@badassdon Debugger is not for “everyday” debugging. Most devs debug w/ the Terminal, which shows error msgs, line nums, & more, instantly.

Seriously? A company run by a former Adobe engineer suggests that a debugger is not for everyday debugging? Pretty good sign it’s time to start looking at other SDKs that actually know what a debugger is.

My subscription (yes, I have a pro account that can’t post on the forum for some reason, despite 2 emails to support) expires soon and I can’t imagine renewing at this stage. [import]uid: 210007 topic_id: 34502 reply_id: 334502[/import]

Hey Rob - let me start by asking you what your account is so we can make sure you can post to the forum. Can you tell me what it is, or email me at davidATcoronalabs? [import]uid: 10668 topic_id: 34502 reply_id: 137207[/import]

Rob, I believe you took the Twitter post out of context. A few points of clarification:

  1. Twitter is not the best medium for proper context. 140 characters cannot express any meaningful level of detail.

  2. We are not suggesting that the Terminal is a comprehensive debugging tool, however it does serve a useful purpose. I use it myself for various diagnostic purposes.

  3. We are currently discussing ways to improve Corona’s Debugger. Ideally, this will evolve into a robust logging system that works both in the Simulator and on the device.

  4. In the meantime, there are 3rd-party options such as Lua Glider. As a for-pay product, I am not stating that it’s the “official answer” to debugging in Corona, simply that it can assist with that in addition to several other things. Again, we are planning to improve our own Corona debugging tools and documentation in the near future.

John, Rob - thanks for all your invective on this. Not really sure it’s worth our time to further answer this thread. Over the last several weeks, both of you are clearly looking for ways to slam the company - no matter how small or large the issue is, it is always the same type of comment.

That’s fine - you are free to do so, and we have a policy here of no censoring or deleting posts (unless someone clearly violates our terms of use, but neither of you has done that). So feel free to keep on doing so. Frankly, I don’t understand where you find the time to slam Corona so much - if I were you, I’d be spending some time learning a new platform. But that’s just me.

In any case - we have many thousands of developers using Corona to build many thousands of very successful apps. That will continue and we are working hard to make sure Corona is the best possible platform. There are so many moving parts around a product like this, that it is hard to have zero issues. That’s just the way it is and we all have to live with it. I assure you we don’t take it lightly though and are working hard every single day.

If the two of you are customers (on other accounts), I thank you for your business. If you aren’t customers yet, I thank you for making the Corona community more vibrant (I really mean that :).
Hopefully over time, if you are still hanging around (and I hope you will) we can convert you into happier, more satisfied customers.

Thanks!
