What is the plan for daily builds, new release builds and graphics 1.0 vs 2.0?

Since there are two branches of daily builds, one for graphics 1.0 and the other for 2.0,  I’m curious what the plans are for the next public release and how long we can expect the development support of graphics 1.0 builds to last.

Are the 1.0 daily builds leading up to another graphics 1.0 public release?  Or are the 1.0 daily builds at some point going to merge with the graphics 2.0 dailies and that will eventually become the next public release? If so, when will work on the 1.0 dailies cease in favor of 2.0 dailies?

I have an app late in the dev cycle that relies on 1.0 graphics.  I want to ensure that the build I use for my app’s eventual release is as current and stable as it can be, given that I don’t plan on converting it to 2.0. Thanks for any clarification from Corona Labs.

Our current plan is to make the next public release be based on graphics 2.0. When graphics 2.0 daily builds become more stable, they will become the official new daily builds, and there will be no more graphics 1.0 daily builds.

During the interim, we are keeping the two daily builds largely in sync. For non-graphics related changes, we bring those to the 1.0 daily build, so that you can take advantage of those changes for production, and then merge those into the G2.0 dailies.

Thanks for the clarification, Walter.  I appreciate you guys continuing to roll non graphics fixes into the G1.0 dailies since I will definitely be shipping using some version of that branch.

+1. Great question and great answer. Thank you.

I thought Gfx 2.0 features were going to be for Pro users only. Is that still the case – same Gfx 2.0 base but some features locked out for Starter people?

PS - Not trying to cause trouble, just need it clarified.

Yes, most G2.0 features will require Pro, but Starters would still be using the same daily build *binaries*.

Heya,  Two quick questions -

  • Any target date (month) for 2.0 going Public?

  • (related) Is it correct to presume that Enterprise won’t get 2.0 until the official public release, or is there a separate timetable for enterprise 2.0? (Since the beta only includes the sim version)
