Where is the Ipad 3 retina view in the latest public build?

Why did you guys get rid of this?  Yes there are still people building for these devices and testing for them.

I really hate the way you guys make these kinds of changes without any consideration for your customer base.  I tried the customize thing and that was terrible.  Borderless works, but I liked the old one better that actually looked like an Ipad 3.

To be honest, I don’t care what it looks like, as long as the pixel count is correct - and borderless save me screen space so I always prefer that one.

Hi @aaroberts,

Well, we do sometimes adjust the available Simulator skins, but in this case, the “iPad Retina” was merely replaced with “iPad Air” which is technically the exact same screen. The only difference is that the skin shows a white device, not black, but otherwise it’s the same skin.

Take care,

Brent

Am on on crack or can’t you just go View->View As->Custom Device and just put in any screen rez you want?

@aaroberts

Another thing to remember is that the Corona skins are just that. Skins. They do not emulate the device in any way. They just provide a screen resolution window that’s the same size as the device.

If you want to emulate the device you must use the Xcode simulator. But even then there’s no guarantee that the app will behave the same way on an actual device, although 99% of the time it does.

Hi Brent,

Thanks for that, but it’s not exactly  the same skin because it no longer fits on my screen like the old one did.  Would it really be that difficult to have from the main drop drop down just Ipad as a selection and then when you select that is lists all of the ipads and skins?  I know this seems trivial to you guys but it is a visualization aid for me (if I’m the only one than I can understand not bothering).  You could skinny down that entire main menu to, for instance:

Kindle

Iphone

Ipad

Amazon

and so on

Chris I’m guessing you’re not on crack because you put a choherent question together…

I tried the customized option and it did not work the way I expected.  I ended up going with Borderless Ipad @2x and that seemed to give me what I had without the skin.

Regards,

Arthur

Can you not zoom the iPad Air skin to fit?  It’s a 1536x2048 device just like the iPad 3 skin, just the border is smaller.  The pixels of the screen area should be the same behavior as before.

Rob

Hi Rob,

Thanks that was a good idea but the zoom factor is like 50%.  I like to have a screen that aproximates the real ipad.

Arthur

In real pixel count? Zoom in to 100% and you have 2048 x 1536 pixels, just like the iPad Retina 3. If that’s not good enough, you seem to be a hard man to please…

Thomas I don’t think it is unreasonable to request that I have what I had before a change was made.

Like I said earlier I want something that approximates the actual size of the Ipad.  I had that before the change was made.

Pixel count is fine for testing.  For visualizing what the player is actually seeing and to get the real look and feel of your game… not so much.

I do think it is unreasonable. So you want a skin especially made for your screen size and device preference? What if you decide to buy a bigger screen? Surely you don’t expect CoronaLabs to change the skins in the simulator for your new screen size?

Pixel count is super-important for developing purposes. For approximation of screen size there are  a ton of options already. And to get the real look and feel of your game, you need the real device either way. Touch and image loading happen so differently that a computer won’t do.

It’s not unreasonable since we already had the skin and Corona labs took it away from us.  I’m not asking for MY preference I’m asking that they restore what they took away.  I also gave them a very reasonable way (read above) to make their screen selection screen more efficient and less cumbersome.

Your are expressing your opinion and how you work that is fine for YOU.

I  am expressing how I work and what works for me.  As I said previously I’m not looking for them to create anything NEW for me just what already existed.  That is NOT unreasonable.

That’s strange. Because it sure looks like you’re asking for your sole preference.

There are multiple zoom levels, 100%, 75%, 50% etc.  On my 1920x1080 monitor at 75% it’s pretty darn close to my real iPad 4 (same screen as the iPad 3).  If I drag my simulator to my 13" MBP, I keep the same relative size and it’s still a pretty close match for my real device.

Of course your monitor size is going to control this.  I have a 24" monitor that has to fit 1920x1080 pixels in it.  If your on a 20" monitor at the same resolution, the simulator will be smaller.  If you’re on a nice big 27" those pixels get spread out more and the window will be larger.   There is no way we can accommodate every possible monitor size at a given resolution.

I believe previously, it probably defaulted to a zoom size that fit the screen better, and now it defaults to a size that gets the whole skin on the screen (I’m not sure about it, since it remembers your zoom settings from skin to skin and I’ve switched around so much).

Rob

Sorry about the flipped photo.  Hopefully this one will be right.

Rob

Hi Rob,

It must be because of our diffrent monitor resolutions.  Mine is 1600x900.  When I zoom out it goes to just 25% of the screen.  When I zoom in it goes off screen.  Thanks for all of that work.

Thomas if you assume the only ones participating in this discussion are the only people using corona SDK then you could make that presumption that this is for my sole preference.  I make no such presumption.

Arthur
