which cheap 2nd hand Android phone for testing?

any advice on which cheap 2nd hand Android phone would be ok for testing?  i.e. before releasing after testing in the simulator?   Some maybe some sub-questions:

  • any particular models of Android phones that would be good but now cheap to get 2nd hand

  • do they need to support v2.2? or it is valid to get an older phone with an earlier version than this for testing?

  • is one Android phone ok (pick one model/brand) to complement the simulator testing (i.e. assuming I don’t have the money to buy one of every brand)?

  • what versions of Android do you need to test on?  (I’m not an Android person)  Do you need to test other versions than v2.2?

thanks

Personally I use a Google Nexus 7 tablet.  I also have a 1st gen Kindle Fire and a Nook Color, both I picked up as factory re-furbs.  I use the Nexus 7 most of the time.

The older Droid’s shoudl suffice, though it seems that most of the quirks come with some Samsung devices.  The really cheap (sub $100 tablets) are pretty problematic overall.

I use the Google Nexus 7 tablet (8GB Version) too. it’s cheap and you always have the latest android Version for testing.

on the tablet I work with 3 diffrent users:

  • my normaly account (full Services of Google+)

  • Dec Test account (to check the purchaeses procedure)

  • Dummy account with only a gmail account and non extension like Google+, for testing the new code as a dummy users

I use nexus 7 also
There’s also the corona beta testers group on Facebook where you could ask someone to test your app on different devices although I wouldn’t use that option till close to release

quick (dumb) question - Would a Samsung GT-I9000/M8 be ok?    Just that I see Android 2.1 in the tech spec & when I build in Corona it says Android 2.2?    Can Android phones be upgraded easily to a later version of Android?  (sorry - I’m not an Android person)
