which color modes in Photoshop are ok for images

which color modes in Photoshop are ok for images? So I guess (a) would work, and (b) be best:

  • RGB vs CMYK ?

  • 8bit/16bit/32bit ?

- color profile - various options including “don’t manage”

Or don’t these really matter if you’re doing “Save for Web” anyway?

In Save for Web:

  • PNG24 vs PNG8?

  • interlaced - say NO ?

  • embed color profile - say NO?

  • convert to sRGB

RGB only.

8 bit indexed or 24 bit color (we call it 32 bit here because of the alpha channel, Save for Web calls it  24 bit)

Good question on the color profile.  I’m presuming it’s ignored and the data is treated as sRGB.

Save for Web will strip the color profile information if you have the check box checked to do so.

So I would summarize that you should either save:

PNG (8 bit indexed, 24/32 bit RGB)

JPEG (24 bit RGB)

I would not interlace them, not embedding the profile keeps image sizes down and sRGB is safe.
