Why do forum topics get archived?

Hi! I wonder why forum topics become archived after a while of inactivity and whether it includes a manual or automated process?

For example, I was trying to find the topic about my transition2 library. Searching the forums didn’t give any results at all, but the topic is still there under Audio&Graphics: https://forums.coronalabs.com/topic/69305-transition2-a-customizable-extension-to-the-transition-library/

But because it is archived, nobody can respond to the topic and I can’t make any additional posts myself. Which means I have to start a new topic if I want to post updates about transition2…

I don’t really see any reason to archive topics that can be of use to anybody. Can someone please explain why and when this happens?

Threads get archived if there’s no activity for 12 months. I’d assume it’s for convenience sake. Archiving helps prevent spam and necroposting.

The archive process basically looks for threads that haven’t had any replies to them in the past 6 months get archived. Decisions several years ago didn’t want people resurrecting old post. That has created some problems and I believe that I have disabled archiving. However, my attempts to unarchive posts that were already archived has failed,

Ok, thanks Rob. Seems like you succeeded in unarchiving at least some of the topics. Tested on my transition2 topic, and it can now be found through search and also accepts new posts.
